Review:BMW 530d sport

The Alpina needed a well deserved checkup (new tyre, oil service and new speed sensor) and so it was into Sytners for a day. In return I was given a gorgeous looking 530d sport. The sport indicating that it had M sports kit, sports suspension, sports exhaust and m wheels. The overall effect was great expecially in the matt blue colour. I have mixed feelings about the sports pack that BM provide. On one hand you can have a good looking car like this. On the other hand you get loads of M5 lookalikes and as someone seriously considering buying an M5 it makes them look common. Not that there isn't certain distinguishing features of a real M5 (4 tail pipes for example).
Interior wise the car is standard 5 series apart from having the alloy facia rather than more common wood. This in my opinion really suits the car and something I would have prefered to have on the Alpina.
The engine is 2988cc straight 6 producing 193bhp and a staggering 302lb ft. This gives the car great mid range acceleration. The car has a maximum speed of 139mph and can reach 60 in 8.9secs, and 100 in 26.3secs. Whilst this is not that fast it is impressive given the returns in mpg.
So how does the car feel like to drive. Well I was only able to do a short run in it but the torque can really be felt. So whilst the car isn't fast (as the numbers above indicated) the car is fun to drive and feels fast. Now in this day and age that has to be a good thing ! The car feels stable - helped by the big rubber and handles as I'd expect a 5 series too. The ride is slightly harder, thanks to the sports suspension.
Conclusion
I really liked the car and although it didn't have the speed for me I didn't mind that when I was driving it. It looked the business and I was sad I didn't have more time to play in it.
