Thanks Ali - I will go and check once the rain eases off and update you.

I collected the car today from my local mechanic. She has been there for two weeks.

Invoice:

Radiator
Air Conditioning Condenser
Air con vaccum test clean and System Regas.
Anti Freeze
Headlight washer
Offside washer jet and pump
Power steering cooler pipe
16 hours labour

Total price Â£560. Which wasnt that bad.
Drove the car back home steadily as it had just started to rain. The car had even been cleaned for me.
I will clean her properly once the weather improves with Autoglym.

Next job will be to replace the laser in the DVD navigation system.

That lot for Â£560???
There should be at least Â£300 in parts there
Â£15/hr labour + VAT in a garage is awesome.
Either that or they got the sums seriously wrong.

Bargain price because I spend my weekends at that garage helping out with simple tasks and some electrical fixes. They are good freinds of mine.

I havent had chance to condition the leather as yet. Its one of my jobs for this week as well as a full clean and Auto Glym detail.

@PerryGunn kindly sent a new firmware with customised splash screen to me. It still wouldnt install. Standard error of CD/DVD error. I decided to take apart the unit and replaced the optic (laser). BMW Swindon wanted to relieve me of Â£2.5k for this unit today!
I bought a new optic for Â£10 from China. Fingers crossed it arrives by the end of september and I will install and replace.

Thanks Hap - Still waiting for the part to arrive from China. Its difficult to get hold of this part now - the use of CD/DVD drives is slowing at an astonishing rate. One idea would be to replace the whole unit with a Solid State Hard Drive. It wouldnt change the functionality or apperance, but make the whole system so much more robust.

I might keep that mod for another time!

Once the Parts arrive from China, i will continue the write up. Fingers crossed it works..

Ok, so the part arrived on Friday......

I went to collect it from hte post office and managed to crash my Audi A4 into the back of a parked car

.

Opened the part up today and its the wrong one........I have asked Ebay for a refund, but i suspect that I wont see the money again.

Still looking for a SF-HD4 Optical pick up if anyone has one.....

Is anyone selling a working Mk4 DVD navigation system?

Found a couple of DVD navs via M3 Cutters. Cheapest is Â£100 + delivery. Risk is who knows what condition the laser is in.......

I also found a site in the states that sells the parts to repair these....

A replacement complete mechanism is Â£100 - so i guess it would be less risky to buy one of these.

Before I buy one, does anyone else on here want one, so i can buy in bulk and potentially save on shipping?

Arghhh.

I ordered the part from america and it arrived on Friday. I was so excited and fitted it on Saturday. Tried it this morning and just got the cd/dvd cannot be read.

I give up......

Im so fed up, im Â£90 down on this thing already.

So i found a working unit via M3Cutters - Â£105 delivered and whilst i was there i ordered a hybrid TV tuner too for Â£170.

They will arrive next week, so it will be fitted next weekend.

I crashed my Audi a few weeks ago and i sold the salvage today. I tried to start the Alpina as that will be my daily car now, and it failed to start. Battery was at 10v. Charging this now - but scared that this is another expense.

Fiited the Nav unit bought from M3 Cutters for Â£105 and it works!

A big thanks to @PerryGunn for the SW - i get a great Alpina logo on start up now!!!

Navigation also seems to work, but is really slow......

TV tuner to install next.

I ordered a rear window regulator and proped up the window with some wood.
