Battery recommendation

Post by woolley11 » Mon Aug 23, 2021 10:45 pm

Thinking I could do with a new battery for my B10 E39 Touring (3.3)

It was going flat when I got car and needed a good charge. Been ok, but let me down once before and done it again this weekend. Jumps off ok but faith in it is dwindling.

Hear Yuasa are good but any recommendations?

I fitted a Yuasa battery to my Porsche 996. The car was mainly only used at weekends so could sit for a while, but I never has any issues. Got mine from Halfords with a five year warranty if I recall correctly. When I researched them, Yuasa came up well in reviews.

I replaced the battery on my B3s not that long ago - same symptoms. Surprisingly genuine BMW was comparable to Halfords etc and they do last about 8 years on average.

OEM is Exide if that helps.

I've got a Yuasa fitted to my E39 B10 Touring 3.3. It was installed about six weeks ago when the previous battery failed me on holiday in Devon.

The invoice says it is a Yuasa 3000 95AH 840A, which makes it a Yuasa YBX3019 from looking ay Yuasa's website

Sorry for late replying

I managed to source a Bosch fitment from my local motor factors at about £60 cheaper than Euro car parts or Halfords

So far no problems at all.

Funnily enough I put a test lamp to the old battery just today and it hardly enough juice to get a very dimmest of glows, so defo it was battery at fault.

Bit late to the party with this one, but I've always used Bosch and sourced them from Costco for all of my cars. Costco are very good at honouring the warranty if you have access to them.

On a related note; be careful about having accessories plugged into the cigarette lighter. Over the last couple of years I've had occasional problems with sluggish starting and occasional no-starts. When I've checked the battery voltage there has been a constant, very slow loss of voltage. At first I put this down to all of the electrical gubbins for the sat nav and hifi in the boot which makes all sorts of clicks bangs and whirrs when the boot is open, but when I did a longer term voltage test, I was losing charge overnight with the car locked and 'shut down'.

Turns out the culprit was a usb adapter plugged into the cigarette lighter. There was nothing plugged into the adapter (I only ever used it to keep the phone charged if I was using sat nav on the phone), but it must have been making a slow but constant draw on the battery. I now remove it unless needed and I've had no more problems since.

That’s interesting - I keep a USB charger in my car too for charging phones etc on the move. I do try and remove it when not in use but I’ll 100% make sure I do now….

Thanks!
