Filled up today 144.5 for diesel
Checked back and that is 23p rise since mid November.
Just crazy - but noone seems to be bothered - what happened to us ? Are we just beaten down by the financial state of the UK ?
I had an email a while back about boycotting the main 3 Petrol companies - has anyone heard of other ideas / doing anything themselves ?

The oil companies are loving the current situation, the dollar barrell price is rising so up go the petrol prices and not not surprisingly so do their profits.
I heard on the news before the Libyan crisis that that Britan's fuel prices were rising much higher week on week than the rest of the EU.
So again it is the oil companies benefiting more than they should do from the situation and us motorists paying for it.

Not just motorists...us burning heating oil are getting skinned. About double the cost of mains gas

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Volkswagen Polo 1.9 Diesel Sport TDi for my commute to work. After 10 months the B10 was averaging 29.7 mpg on an 82 mile round trip mainly on a dual carriageway.
Tonight I did the proper fill up and refill and averaged 60.5 in the Polo!
I think the B10 will stay resting in the garage.

Fuel prices are one of the main reasons i swapped the B10 for the D3..... 40mls per day commute.
Not be a massive saving, but anything is better than nowt...

Fortunately, the average of 800+ miles I do a week is all company miles and is covered by my company.
Unfortunately, this racks up shed loads of miles on the B3.
The bonus will be for someone in about 6 months or so when a relatively high mileage 2008 B3 convertible comes up for what will no doubt be a good price from the stealer when I trade it in.
Even with company paid fuel, I have noticed a steady increase from £60ish per tank of go-go juice upto around £80 per tank!!!

For those with `commuter cars` ... given the additional cost of purchase and running, how much are you actually saving ?
This past week `up here` I have only seen BP constantly increase their prices ... up to 134 for UL and 144 for SUL - Shell has remained static at 127 for UL - Tesco UL @ 124 !!!

The savings are pretty hefty if you do the miles and keep the commuter car spend sensible.
Even at today's lower fuel prices the difference on my commuting mileage between 25mpg on petrol and 50mpg on diesel is two and a half grand a year. That's assuming 24,000 miles commuting which is what I do.
If you're willing to practice bangernomics then it can work out pretty well, if you have the slightest trace of mechanical OCD however I don't think it's a good move. I struggle badly with "what's that noise, I'd better get that fixed, hmmmm this could definitely do with new shocks - that's a safety issue and would make it better to drive too" syndrome so the commuter car thing almost never works out for me
That's the reason I'm toddling around in a leased Juke, it's well specced, utterly reliable, most things which could go wrong are covered under warranty and it has very low running costs. That's letting me build up a nice war chest to get something much more fun at the end of the lease. Works for me.
