B12 E38 5.7 #45 E-KAT

Post by Norrie » Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:56 am

Interesting story appears this vehicle was originally bought from L & C Croydon some time around 1998. Reg R 734 TGF for 100K. It has had 3 owners and the last chap passed away. Vehicle has not ben used for 8/9 years, but had a failed MOT in 2016 I think.

I spoke to the new owner last night and he is going to get it road worthy. It may well come for sale after that according to our discussion.

it'll be interesting to see what he does, when I saw it, it needed a huge amount of work, let alone dealing with nigh on 250k's worth of miles on that drivetrain and interior.

I spoke at length to the new owner. It appears not been used for 8/9 years. Car reg is T 734 TGF alleged to be purchased from L & C Croydon in 1998 for 100K. It has had 3 previous owners. I think someone went to look at in in 2016 and took it for an MOT it failed. The owner had died and it was not his widow so assumes some prospective purchaser?

The guy who has it is not an ALPINA fan or even large car as opposed to sports car fan. He said it runs and he will do the basics to get it on the road and then decide if just to put it up for sale and see what offered. It is evidently covered in 8 years muck, but has been in car port. The owners child has been using it to play in I understand.

I anticipate that even when MOT'd many discerning owners would feel the need to spend a great deal more on it to bring it to their standard? His dilemma is that he does not want to do that and find it has limited interest. It is alleged another which was relatively recently featured on the cover of the Straight Six BMW mag is now for sale at 24K.

I hope this car no 45 can be resurrected, but do not feel in the current hands it will be restored to former glory.

Must be R734 as listed as a Bmw 750.

The Mot failure in 2016 doesn’t look that scary, brake pipes, discs, ball joints, all stuff you would do if it’s been stood for a while. Although the is a restraint system fault which is always frightening given the various elements it could be and probs to diagnose.

As stated by AG the worry is the engine, the rest of the mechanicals can be dealt with through the normal specialists. There’s also the dreaded rust, no mention of issues on last mot, but I can’t believe there’s not some hidden issues that have not been uncovered. My M3 needed work last year, it looked great until the sill covers came off

I know these are rare, but what’s the fascination with this particular car?

I spoke to the current owner earlier today
He’s been told he will get a minimum of £10 to £12k
By just putting an mot on it and giving it a quick wash and polish
235000 miles
Or he thinks he can break the car for parts and achieve more

I’d be grabbing their arm off if someone offers £10k as it stands.

Not even worth £5k
The B12 5.7 registration R73 MEH
Was sold last year for under £12k
A very clean car and with less than 100,000 miles

I think a lot is speculation until someone examines the vehicle in its current condition. I did suggest to him when I spoke to him he takes it some where that deals with a lot of ALPINA cars and has restored them and gets a full and proper estimate.

Any property is only worth what someone is willing to pay, a car is just that property.

Correct

At 10k it’s still better value than this cossy 3 door, asking price 22k, madness

Why
Any classic car has an inherit value in the market place, and if it is damaged or in need of restoration that is often greater in value than the returns. This Sierra is not cost effective to repair and maybe neither is the B12, which I am not valuing at 10k.

Finding parts for old RS cars is near impossible and they can be very costly, this must compare directly with the alpina brand. At least you can go to BMW and get classic spares, you can’t with Ford.

At the end of the day someone may want to invest a vast sum of money into either of these vehicles, who are we to judge what it may be worth to them.
