Sounds like you have a plan :D

As a matter of interest, what do they think the problem is?

Well lets hope it works out! I've not committed to sending it there yet, but it looks that way.

He believes the reverse drum has broken/split.

Amazing prices and service. Does that include parts? Trans on or off car?

Sorry for the delayed reply.

I popped in personally to book my B3 in to Vanmatic and spoke to the owner.

The price includes all parts, labour and VAT. Gearbox will be taken off the car.

I did mention if I required new gearbox mounts, propshaft coupling, oil cooler and any other associated parts that need replacing while the gearbox is out, could this be done? He said no problem at all - he will ring me to advise if anything extra needs doing and run the prices through with me first.

Of course those items will be charged in addition to the overhaul.

FYI - Hardy Engineering replied back to me and quoted £2500+VAT for a complete overhaul of the gearbox.

Update:

Dropped my car off to Vanmatic on Tuesday 21st (morning) and was told it will be ready in 4-5 days, so basically after the bank holiday.

However, to my delight I received a phone call from the owner on Friday 24th (morning) stating the car was ready to collect - which I was glad about, as I wanted it back before the long weekend.

My reverse drum was well a truly broken, he showed it to me (I'll upload a picture soon as I can). Bits of metal were floating around the gearbox, so lucky I stopped driving it when I lost reverse gear and only drove it again to drop the car off to him!

I paid the £950+VAT, with no other costs needed/added. I have 12 month warranty on the gearbox. The owner would also like to see me back after 1000 miles to check the gearbox over after the running in period.

Overall I'm very happy with the service I received and highly recommend Vanmatic.
