Sytner e24 B9 Alpina 5-377

Post by Markc88 » Sat Sep 30, 2017 4:40 pm

Hello AlpinaRegister!

Sharing some information on my recently acquired 1983 e24 Sytner B9 (Auto).

I live in Perth Australia and the car has been local here since 1989 when it was brought out from the UK. Despite not being all that well maintained the basics of the car are very solid with very little rust and no accident damage.

Gary at Sytners kindly located the original build sheet. The car is vin #8185772 and has the matching xB9/1x block. Being unrestored it has all of its original features including plaque, steering wheel, badge front and rear, black cam cover and the hand painted orange dials. The car drives quite well but will be getting a full restoration over the next year, I'm planning on having the suspension and brakes done first and driving it in its, er patina'd, condition before losing it to the paint shop for anow extended period.

Should be fun ill update periodically.

Cheerso markImage

You're a very lucky man; finding a UK E24 Alpina is almost impossible... in the UK.

excellent, I'm intrigued by the sytner response. Many who have contacted them of late have been told they don't have the records!

Its UK number plate was A333 BRC so that would be a nice touch even for 'display' purposes! And the info I have here states it did leave Sytners with a Gold deko kit fitted, Can you clarify the interior it has fitted at present?

Thank you for the responses.

AG it still has the black leather, I assume it is the original. I'll see if I can add the photo of the Sytner build sheet, seems you have the same info. I've ordered some silver deko for it and found some Alpina 16" wheels. I struggle a bit with the Centra's and gold would deko would be too much for me!

Sytners where quite helpful, with these sorts of requests I guess you just need to get them on the right day. They did mention the guy who put them together in the 80's (Mark also) still works there. They have a hard copy file in a separate location. See attached "build sheet" (!).

I have a few cars so post a bit on instagram (@bangersundcash) there is more images of the car there.

With thanks mark

Lovely find and original to boot
I would try and stick to original if possible with the gold stripes as gold on black is classic combination
The wheels of that era would be 16 but with the black middles

I remember when wheeler dealer had a 6 in it had those exact wheels you have

Just a quick update that surprised me, with the factory now verifying the engine number (They never recorded the VIN) they will happily supply NOS and manufacture parts (like the front spoiler) for the car.

Again the Sytner team was extremely helpful in arranging this, just a pity that I'm in Australia and we've now been told they can't sell to me.

The car is heading into paint in the next week or so.

the Sytner info I have shows a VIN?

Good news on the NOS parts, surely someone in the UK can organise shipping to you if needs be?

Hi AG

It looks like Alpina HQ never tied the Sytner cars VINs to engine kits they sent out so the only number they will issue to is the engine #.

Kind of charming with the Spoiler they just get the original mould out and make one!

I've been directed to Alpina distributor in Australia and pricing is ok (they must have a much better transport rate!)

There is a Sytner B10 e28 coming up for Auction on Sydney next month should be an interesting result, looks like a nice car.

Cheers mark

That makes sense, after all Sytner just bought the items and Alpina wouldn't have known what car they went into.
