Price of oil change
Price of oil change
Interested to know how many of you use a BMW garage for an oil change, and what kinda price I'd be looking at? Local garage (not BMW) quoted £75.00? Ta
Seems a good price TBH
Say a D3 used 5l of oil usually about £10/litre for good stuff so theres £50
1/2 hour labour at £25 so thats a no brainer
Then the garage has to dispose of the old oil
BMW dealer will charge £60 + vat just for the labour
Most if not all garages use a dipstick vacuum and sook the oil out of the engine but it only ever gets 95% of the old oil out
Saves time on removing under trays and shearing sump bolts

All depends on the individualVxrich wrote:I read a few posts where local BMW garages aren't very good? Pretty surprised at that?
Best to go by personal recommendations for a good independent.
TBH any monkey can sook oil out an engine and pour in 5 litres of new stuff.
Given the LL oils used now whoever puts it in is quite irrelevant as long as there is supporting evidence for the correct oil and filters being used.
Isn't service history in F30 onwards models held on the key anyway. Service books soon to be rendered obsolete?

If you do get BMW to do it make sure they use the right oil, they tend to want to just slop in whatever they use on the 320d as that's what the car shows up as on their system.
When I had the D3 BT serviced at a main dealer it ran me nearly £300 for oil, filter, microfilter and a brake fluid change.

I had my Mini Cooper S done yesterday and it was EUR 145 (£115), oil, filter and disposal.
Last time I had the B8 done (in UK) it was £165.
Both occasions was Castrol 5W30.

Was thinking of supplying oil filter and oil myself and letting the local mechanic do the labour. Where's the best place for the bits? I'm guessing ya all going to say Sytner? If so do they keep a good range of Alpina bits in stock? I'm in Nottingham tomorrow so could pop in and get the oil change bits.
Any BMW garage for the filter and Alpina recommend castrol oil !!Vxrich wrote:Was thinking of supplying oil filter and oil myself and letting the local mechanic do the labour. For your car, it is essential to have a full service history, preferably a BMW service history.Vxrich wrote:Cheers. Obviously it's looks better on your service history to have all work done by a BMW dealer but if it's not an Alpina dealer does it make any difference
There is no need to take it to Sytner, your nearest BMW dealership or BMW authorised service agent will be able to do all the servicing and provide the essential BMW stamp in your service booklet.
In terms of where to buy - shop around ECP often have offers on, but there are other motor factors out there (if your supplying your own oil and filter. Make sure you put a copy of the invoice for the oil & filter in with the service history to show it's to spec.
I'd also advise on yearly oil changes in your D3 or every 9000 miles to ensure the oil is fresh and not turned acidic. The plastic guides around your timing chain will always love you for the fresh oil.
On your E91, the service information is displayed on the instrument consolue using the push switch & up/down switch on the stalk. It's also held in the key but make sure you get the stamps in your service booklet as the E91 isn't centrally stored unlike the F3x range.
Nothing to see here.... move along in an orderly fashion please!
