Yes or No to Gaydon 2013 BMWCC National event

Post by SPA69 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 11:26 am

Can I ask everyone to take 5 mins to let me know their thoughts about the BMW Car Club event held at Gaydon.

As many of you will know Gaydon has beed taking place for a number of years. In the past people have voiced their opinion to me and said its time for a change.

Well I am off to a meeting this coming weekend with the board of directors for the car club. On the agender is Gaydon 2013...

Now early part of this year I made a decision that I was not going to bother with Gaydon 2013 as I too was fed up with the venue plus hours of trying to talk people into attending.

However Gaydon was really quite good this year even if we only had 25 cars. The feedback was also good from those that came, infact I have never had such good feedback.

So over to you guys. Do you want me to book space for 2013

I have started a 14 day poll.. A simple yes or no

Also feel free to post your thoughts and ideas

It doesnt concern me if your a car club member or not as most of the display at Gaydon is non car club members. I just want peoples opinions and thoughts as to whether or not Alpina should attend Gaydon 2013.

As this forum is the official brand of BMWCC, i feel that there should be a presence at Gaydon.

Those of you whom are not members, you don't know how lucky you are getting on a wide and spacious tarmac area without having to pay membership. The regional stand has been on bumpy grass the last 2 years and is really not a nice place to be, especially with this years weather!

I do feel that the venue should be changed though!

Thoroughly enjoyed this years' event, much more than we did in the past - that was down to the attendees on our display: period. It is a fair trek for us, but then, everywhere is a long and often tortuous way for us to get to: and we even make it to Notts as we're brand loyalists  We're very lucky that the group of owners who regularly make the effort are great people to spend a day with.

So...

Gaydon? Maybe not in the future. It is time for a change of location BUT it needs to stay central for most owners to consider attending.

ALPINA presence at future meets? Definitely.

Will we attend? Yes, if it is accessible to us and we are available.

If space is booked for Gaydon 2013, we would do our very best to attend to support the brand and whoever is organising it from the ALPINA POV.

And to finish, we are no longer BMWCC members. Something the club needs to remedy is the welcome and inclusiveness offered to new members and real benefits to membership.

Thanks for the coments so far.

Arit totally agree with what you said, most of the shows I attend you end up parked on a shity feild..

As for who is likley to organize the display area, well that will be me but only if there is a number of interested people to make it worth the time and effort that goes into making a good display.

The CENTRE of the UK is apparently here, and that includes all outlying islands etc. However, there are probably slightly 'more sensible' central points (thinking East Lancs, here). Gaydon is very close to the geographical centre of England...but that obviously excludes Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales in its calculation

I always thought Ashby-de-la-zoush was the most central as its the furthest point from and beach in the country!

Ragley hall may be a good location as its only down the road from Gaydon.

An Alpina presence is a most definitely, but I would prefer a change of location, so that it differs for different people in terms of driving length. As quite a few members did stay in a hotel for one/two nights, some logical location near a hotel and negotiate some discount. I know the club has an affiliation with Crowne Plaza, but the deals do not seem to be that advantageous to the club members.

Also I don't think that the club reflects the tuning or 'pimping' side of the market. i believe there was a few cars to the side of the Alpina stand where customers had spent clearly a lot of money on their cars.

As regards trade stands, Meguiars is not the only detailing product available, have other suppliers being contacted? How about a detailing stand/advice and have a go etc. Everybody at Gaydon tries to ensure their cars look sparkling, so surely their is an opportunity for the detailing section?

Happy to discuss further!

I'd be up for a new venue, just to spice it up. Although i'd still go if it was back at Gaydon.

I guess another question is is there a venue out there big enough for the amount of cars and people that attend?

I'm a non member but i don't have a vendetta against the club.

As there is a large number of non club members on this forum can I ask why. I have no problem if you guys choose not to join the club but I value your opinion on whatever reasons you have.

I can take your veiws with me to the meeting on saturday and put them to the club directors.
