E85 Roadster S #200 (LUX)

Post by Bob » Wed Aug 04, 2021 1:26 am

Nice looking RS has surfaced on PH. Looks to have had a very conscientious owner and history of an extensive engine rebuild under warranty.

Should one be worried about the engine work in 2013 and is the car reasonably priced ?
Any comments appreciated.

Personally, the engine work wouldn't bother me too much as it was carried out by a main dealer under warranty (so there shouldn't have been any cost-cutting), and appears to have had a subsequent inspection at Buchloe (as long as the documentation backs this up). It's covered around 13k since then so should be nicely bedded-in.

Even though it's done low annual mileage over the last few years, I would want to check that it's been regularly serviced. It's not enough to go by the service indicator lights as there's a two-yearly requirement - so it's service when indicated by the lights or after two years, whichever occurs first. If the two-yearly services haven't been done, it's likely the brake fluid hasn't been changed for an extended period which can cause problems with seals etc.

As far as the price goes, all second-hand car prices seem to be pretty strong at the moment. Assuming it drives well, is in pretty good condition with good documentation and full service history, IMO the asking price is in the right ballpark to allow for a bit of haggling.

With only 167 RHD vehicles made your choice is always going to be somewhat limited - there are some ownership stats in viewtopic.php?f=4&t=25512 that can give an indication of average owners/mileage

I do know someone else who was considering this one, not sure if they pulled the trigger or not though.

This was in the last week or so and DVLA are running at least a couple of weeks delay from what I've seen.

Nice to see Sytner are doing their best to increase the (perceived) value of my car...

Decent profit in that for Sytner if they get anywhere near the asking - OTOH, anyone reading this will know that they didn't pay more than £16k for it so should be able to haggle hard.

There is also one at Leisure Car Shop & Gumtree not selling at £18,450 and another at Historic Classic £18k both over valued I guess.
A friend sold his Z4 £34k and on the dealer’s forecourt just below £39k

The market decides the value, and asking prices for RS' have been pretty strong lately, but much of the value depends upon condition and provenance - which those cars may lack.

There are several cars that keep reappearing for sale, either privately or at various dealers and there are probably good reasons that they keep moving around without finding a longer-term owner - e.g. condition, lack of service history or, possibly, mechanical issues. Reports from people who have been and viewed some of them indicate that they look a lot better in the ads than they do in person.

If you really want an RS, you need to be patient, keep your eyes open and wait for a decent one to appear - and be prepared to travel as the 150-ish left in the country are fairly well distributed by now.
