2009 B3 touring RHD 41k miles.

Post by noj66 » Sat Mar 20, 2021 6:04 pm

Apologies if this has been shared before.

My nephew sent me a link to it on BMW Owners Club UK(Official) Facebook page. I joined the group to take a better look. Not much info, seems like the seller is looking for help pricing it. Looks like a Japanese import. Lovely green colour.
I've saved the photos but don't know how to get them here

That is very cool! Interesting timing as we were only discussing the rarity of RHD E91 B3 tourings this week.

Should also add, this isn't/can't be an ALLRAD as they were LHD only. There is something about the owner/seller doesn't add up, it's reminiscent of one of the seller accounts that was peddling E46 B3 3.3 #160

Be interesting to see how this pans out when the car lands. It would make for my ideal wagon.
AFAIK no RHD E9X models ever had the X-drive system or Allrad in alpina speak.
That doesn't necessarily mean someone hasn't made one at huge and great expense, whether it left Buchloe like that will be another question. Has had wheel upgrades too as Allrads came with 8 &9J classics in 18" guise with square 245 tyres all round so not to confuse the X-drive system This has 19" dynamics which will be 8.5 & 9.5J. With a sensible square tyre choice it could still work.
Do japanese models not get the blue dials and red needles in the clocks as they apear normal and white here?
I love the green exterior and the brown interior.
If it had a manual box I'd be out robbing a bank right now!!!!

As others have stated, BMW never made a RHD E9x 335ix AWD model of any sort so this means Alpina haven't either.

Happy to be proven wrong but my bet is that it has been incorrectly listed by the Japanese auction.

Looking forward to pics of the dash plaque and front drive shafts which would categorically confirm it being an ALLRAD.

I think it would be preferable if it does turn out to be rear wheel drive. It's certainly more desirable for me.

A rear wheel drive will be lighter, quicker, more fun, no doubt have better steering feel and also be less complicated. I'm sure the AWD BMWs were mainly developed for climates that see a lot of snow. It would make more sense if you live in the Alps.

In the UK, with modern tyres, you won't struggle to put the power down. A set of cross climates or winters for the winter months will see you through any potential bad weather. You'll be left with a much more enjoyable car.

I can understand why Alpina are basing the latest G series models on the AWD platforms as the power outputs are surpassing 500hp and for a lot of people it will be a more usable package.

Either way, looking forward to see what it turns out to be.

Bob, do you have either of the VINs as I have the format of the E91 B3/B3S and B3/B3S Allrad. If I recall, the Alpina VIN is usually quoted on the auction sheet. If you have that, I should be able to determine what it is or started life as.

I though the reason we didn't tend to see Allrad Alpinas until recently was more to do with the fact that there were engineering limitations on Allrad combined with RHD and therefore the base models were not produced by BMW in RHD form.
Regards,

James

if such a car was made then Alpina and BMW would of had to have paid for type approval for this model is my understanding which is alot of money, no AWD RHD cars were made so the chances of this being AWD slim. Or you've got Bob hope and no hope. I'm guessing here but there probably isn't enough room for a front wheel drive setup, 2 turbos and a steering rack all in the same place hence no AWD models for the UK

I'd run with the fact it is Alpina green with tan trim and its a wagon which makes it epic

UK Cars: there was one E91 B3 BiTurbo and three E91 B3 S BiTurbo cars sold.

The last B3S has a pan roof but I don't believe any of the others do.

This thread was locked for a couple of hours this afternoon as a result of some inappropriate comments and accusations which were felt to have "crossed the line" in terms of how we do things here.

Since then, a collective decision was made by the Admin team to delete the account of a member here due to failure to respond to repeated warnings about their inappropriate comments and behaviour. This decision was not taken lightly and did involve giving the member an opportunity to respond to the various reasons to either ban/delete them. Unfortunately, it was clear that they did not or would not recognise why their comments/behaviour was considered inappropriate. This decision is not open to further discussion and I would kindly request that members refrain from referring to the comments/behaviour of the last three weeks by said ex-member (directly or indirectly) as any such posts will be deleted immediately.

Since then, I have been through the entire thread and tidied up any "orphan" posts that resulted from not only deleting the user but also their posts. If any remaining posts need to be removed then please let me know via PM

This thread is now re-opened to allow continued discussion about this car - it is an Alpina Green Touring after all.

Hi all,

Does anyone know any further info about this car? I think this is one you mentioned @Bob, in your reply to my recent post "There is also a recently imported Japanese B3 BT."

Any info greatly appreciated!

Cheers, David

Beyond that fact that it arrived in the UK in Jun-21, I’ve not heard anymore I’m afraid.
