At 10k it’s still better value than this cossy 3 door, asking price 22k, madness
I have seen some crazy prices on complete basket case Mk1 and Mk2 RS Escorts - people are basically just buying the log book. It's even staring to happen on Mk3 and Mk4s now - who would have ever thought it.

This is a weird thread - I just want to see the car. Guess a few people on here already know it.

Good stuff, a B12 thread. :D

Are there any piccies of either of these two cars? I'd heard rumour from Simon of the barn find B12, and I'd really like to know what was wrong with the one that sold cheap last year, difficult to tell just from piccies of course, but it's an outlier in those recently sold.
Re the value of the "barn find", impossible to tell as others have said, but if you're standing in front of the car and rack up all the bits that need doing in order to return it to being a 25k car, it's simple arithmetic to arrive at a value, likely negative!! Bodywork will likely need a budget, as will paint, hopefully the engine would be ok as the 5.7 is reasonably robust. Gearbox will need a service at best though. Suspension (likely to be EDS plus self levelling at the rear) and fuel tank could also be budget busting. And then there's all the little bits: seized pumps, water damaged trim, perished rubber seals, etc. which I can see in my mind's eye. These things add up quite quickly on a luxury motor.
But offsetting that, it's a B12 Alpina FFS! :D We shouldn't reduce a car like this to a rational numerical calculation, I'm sure someone will do it, but the current owner needs to be realistic based on condition. My guess is that even if it sells for sub 10k, it'll cost 15-20k (maybe more) to get it sorted, but then you shouldn't buy a B12 and expect to make a profit!

Fingers crossed for it.....

I have spoken to the current owner. I also received a report that via a third party, the car had been examined around 2 years ago. It was alleged:-

N/s door required
N/s rear quarter needs replacing
Alternator failed - now replaced I was told yesterday
approx 250 K miles on the clock
Interior poor condition and seat not Alpina bespoke and badly scuffed etc
Car used as playground by son of owner, who is deceased
ALPINA wheels not matching 2 of one type and three of the other
front spoiler damaged
rear damage
sills need welding
car covered in filth years
original documents missing replacement set do not start until 2004
Car stolen and recovered.

I understand the car is running, may need replacement tyres, based on age and condition.

Appear discs have been cleaned up and new brakes are to be fitted.

I have not seen the car, this is not my appraisal, the guy who bought it wants to sell. He has rejected one offer so far. If anyone is serious then private message me and I will pass your details. Car is in Kent.

The more we hear about this one, the more it sounds like it’s only good for a parts donor. Unless someone is keen enough to pour a huge amount into a project that will never repay the investment.

exactly theres no value in this car other than being able to of owned one and had the experience, as its got the full collection of what you don't want in an old car if you want it to be valuable

Needs to be cheap and for someone who has skills to tinker it back. Otherwise its a mega money pit

100 percent correct,

owner said he needs to get it across to a wider audience, there will be somebody out there that will pay him £10k plus

100 percent correct,
Not necessarily!

If you plan to buy it, repair it and at some point sell it for more than you have spent, then this is the case.

However, some people might choose to spend what it needs to bring the car back to life - even if the maths doesn't work out.

We never know, but some people love a project and have the time and inclination to bring cars back to their best, often with some disregard to the costs or the ability to recover the money, but for the love of the challenge. I have 100% zero skills, time or intent personally, but there may be some that do.

I guess it depends on how one values a vehicle? I have said mine owes me nothing, I never consider it as an asset or property and I have written of all the costs in my mind if not my wallet. I prefer to value it in what it brings me in enjoyment over the years and when the time comes, when it may be, and I get something it will be a bonus, but I would rather sell at a lower price to a genuine enthusiast than to a dealer, speculator or quick buck merchant.

The one that Norrie initially posted up about, I have seen it, a few years back when it resided in Essex admittadley but I can't imagine it being that much better today.
According to the then owner it wouldn't start, was very dirty, tyres all flat and all 4 would need replacing (cracked rubber etc) interior, well I could only look through the windows and it was as dirty inside as it was out, dried oil stains underneath the car, paint appeared flat and then they were looking at £8k to 10k.
It had been standing for around 4 to 5 years up to that point, worth restoring, probably, but until someone puts money into that car it'll never realise its current asking value let alone a value it could realise when its all up and running and in tip top health. Hate to think what it'll need in the long run.
