Good stuff, a B12 thread.
Are there any piccies of either of these two cars? I'd heard rumour from Simon of the barn find B12, and I'd really like to know what was wrong with the one that sold cheap last year, difficult to tell just from piccies of course, but it's an outlier in those recently sold.
Re the value of the "barn find", impossible to tell as others have said, but if you're standing in front of the car and rack up all the bits that need doing in order to return it to being a 25k car, it's simple arithmetic to arrive at a value, likely negative!! Bodywork will likely need a budget, as will paint, hopefully the engine would be ok as the 5.7 is reasonably robust. Gearbox will need a service at best though. Suspension (likely to be EDS plus self levelling at the rear) and fuel tank could also be budget busting. And then there's all the little bits: seized pumps, water damaged trim, perished rubber seals, etc. which I can see in my mind's eye. These things add up quite quickly on a luxury motor.
But offsetting that, it's a B12 Alpina FFS!
We shouldn't reduce a car like this to a rational numerical calculation, I'm sure someone will do it, but the current owner needs to be realistic based on condition. My guess is that even if it sells for sub 10k, it'll cost 15-20k (maybe more) to get it sorted, but then you shouldn't buy a B12 and expect to make a profit!
Fingers crossed for it.....
