E39 LCI B10 3.3 #202

Post by Bob » Tue Jan 26, 2021 1:10 pm

This one has reappeared on eBay with a £2k price drop, looks tidy enough in the pics but looking at the MOT History is hasn't seen much use since 2018. That said it passed yesterday with no advisories.

Not sure on what basis it is 1 of 3 though? There were at least 17 UK 3.3's in ALPINA Blue II and 7 of those were LCI which all had Black Montana leather and 5 of 7 were Switchtronic. A lot more than 3 have current MOT's too.

B10 3.3 [E39 LCI] #202; FQ95-3965 - ALPINA Blue II/N6SW - Black Montana Leather; 2002_52; £10.0k; 157k; Trade

Not far from me, I haven’t seen it driving around “these parts” though. It looks very tidy.

Looks a very tidy car in the pics and I think not having a rear spoiler doesn't age the car as much. Although I have a spoiler and like it I don't think I would look to add one now if I didn't. Looks not too different to more modern models.

Thanks Bob, that’s a very nice looking car but quite strong money - didn’t realise you’d copied the only 2 photos

I think the V8s spoiler is a bit marmite John, I added the M5 version as I think it tidies up the rear end a bit while still being discreet...queue gratuitous pic of my car :D

Looks lovely, colour and lack of spoiler suit it well in my opinion.

I'd be keen to give it a try, although I've had an E39 of this era and it had a few annoyingly issues which I couldn't fix (rear parking sensors and failing keys) which would dampen the experience a bit if they arose.

Also I sold my 525i SE for £675 with 119K miles, (admittedly back in late 2016) and so, psychologically, this would be a big jump for much the same thing.

I agree that the M5 spoiler looks more subtle and a bit tidier and you can be forgiven for posting a pic of your car looking great.

Apart from the rarity rubbish in the advert given the recent service work carried out and the general condition in the photos this must be a fairly realistic price now.

Values of B10 3.3's seem to be a bit of a conundrum. Sellers are confident they are £10k+ all day long whilst buyers don't seem to necessarily agree.

There are two good examples which have been for sale on and off for a couple of years: #198, a manual with 145k and #148, a Switch-tronic with 142k (so fairly comparable to this one as they are all LCI cars too). Both #198 and #148 have been advertised as classifieds with pricing from £9-15k, but when #198 has been offered as eBay and Car & Classic auctions, it hasn't seen bids over £7k.

It has been suggested that as these cars get older and fall more into second car territory, the potential draw of a V8 version outweighs the practicality of a 3.3. There have been a few V8's falling below £10k so I'd suggest that sets the ceiling for a 3.3 (or 3.2).

I think you've summed it up Bob and the blue touring up at the moment might follow this same pattern.
