One geeky observation on the F1* series cars - steering wheel with a silver trim under the airbag is the sports steering wheel (thicker rim, thumb rests). Without (all black) is a standard wheel like this B5 has.
I do like the thinner rims Alpina used to fit.

Jumping between my D3 (E90) and the D4 which has the sport steering wheel is a ghastly change, the D4 is too thick for comfort IMHO whereas the D3 is near perfect in size. E90’s could be the peak in “traditional” bmw design.

The rim on my B5 is noticeably slimmer than the one on my 535i. Some of the new M cars are ridiculous.

I'm not surprised given it's a saloon. Take a look at F10 M5 values and you'll see this B5 is still at a premium sub 20k

Anyone know if there are there any long term engine worries reported with the F10 V8?

I am going to see this B5 Sunday.

Any advice on what to look out for? The dealer has supplied Ken M 44's folder of receipts still intact - but I can't seem to DM Ken on the forum for some reason, messages just stick in outbox

The reason for the price hike apparently was 'market 2nd hand value rises', replacement Alpina springs/shocks & front end re-spray - I am going to check those over + brake discs from photos don't look in good shape.

Will be armed with a paint depth gauge, tyre tread gauge and my non-mechanical eye otherwise - and my brave pants too!

The dealer has been straightforward, helpful and gets good reviews online otherwise.

Any further advice would be appreciated! I have looked at an aftermarket warranty to protect against any F10 M5 engine gremlins (lots of engines replaced under warranty with BMW) seeing their way over to the B5.....but alas at £3200 per year, I am better off taking the gamble!
