F30 D3 BiTurbo #037

Post by Bob » Sun May 31, 2020 10:34 am

This one has been around a while now. Started as a private sale down in Essex in Jul-18, and has been through at least 3 dealers since. Covered 7.5k miles since then though!

Looks like it needs a lot of detailing too, the bonnet looks badly stained.

Why on earth would you do an ad with a bird poo on the bonnet?

Hard to understand the logic of such a poorly presented car. It's more expensive than similar ones and not necessarily in better condition.

When you look on mot history it is listed as a BMW 3 series, rather than Alpina D3. why is that ? Is this normal-and why oh why wouldnt you be bothered to wipe the bird poo off?

Yes, it's pretty common, it's actually harder to find ALPINA's that show up with the correct model description on MOT History & Vehicle Check sites.

It was always the case back when Sytner used to build the cars and they, in most cases, were already registered as the based vehicle. But even today when cars are imported and registered here as a factory built ALPINA they frequently show up as BMW 3/5 Series or just BMW. Certain models are better than others: RoadsterS' for some reason are usually correct but F3x B's & D's are often just BMW. I can only assume it's something to do with how the paperwork is completed at first registration by Sytner.

Just do the usual checks for:
- the crossed out BMW VIN (WBA******),
- check the BMW VIN for option "S920 - Alpina Without Registration Document",
- check the last 3 digits of the ALPINA VIN (WAP******) equal the build plaque number,
- check www.alpina-archive.com and www.thealpinaregister.com for evidence of the same vehicle.

Hope that helps.

Earlier this year this was bought from the dealer in Bolton. The new owner was on FB, had it remapped to a claimed 380bhp/800NM in Jun-21 and now it's at Blackbushe with a smoking/noisy engine. :?

That poor car's had a hard life. Shunted around dealers, covered in poo, and now this.

It's book value is somewhere round £15.5-16k as a Clean car, so with a smoking/noisy engine and mods ... it's how brave does someone feel?

It’s also picked up some smoked rear lights! Just horrible!

Why do ppl like to fk shit up? Why add a dodgy remap to an already highly tuned motor?

Hard to say, but it does seem strange choice, given all the r&d ALPINA do.

The hardest part is that I really wanted this car. I went to look at 2 D3’s one Sunday. There was this one and a white one in Preston. Both advertised at the same price.

From the photos, the white one looked stunning and this one looked alright but when I saw them both in the flesh. This black one was stunning while the white one was quite nice but it was a really low spec model.

I put an offer in for it but was beaten by a few hours.

I was going to buy the white one but felt like I settling for 2nd best.

I can’t believe that it was remapped and had the DPF removed. It was a stunning car and ran beautifully. I’m puzzled as to why when it’s a fast enough car anyway. ☹️
