Wonder if they've test driven it and spotted the issue yet...

Not sure, guess we might find out in time.

Was talking to a friend in the trade, apparently F3x's are notorious for faults with the steering rack, there are plenty of results after a quick Google. Wonder if that was checked? You'd like to hope so if it was at a BMW dealer?!

Somewhere above it was written that the fronts were swapped left to right - hence how the tyre damage was spotted. And the rears were new when the car was purchased. So it reads as if the rears hads not been swapped right to left as part of the owners fault finding. My bet is a rear tyre was at fault. I'd have thought a steering rack issue would be apparent not just when accelerating hard.

In my experience, most garages/dealers, are terrible at diagnosing issues such as this. Porsche dealers are equally inept. My advice is to go somewhere like Center Gravity. When I was last there with my 718 Cayman, Chris Franklin the owner, was solving a handling/tyre issue on a 911 which had just been fitted with new Michelin PS4s. When I enquired as to who was other chap inspecting the car, he told me it was the Technical Assessor (or similar title) for Michelin UK no less. Admittedly Center Gravity are Porsche specialist, but they see a few M cars and exotica.
Present & Past: Alpina D3BT (F31); Alpina D3 S (G21); Subaru Forester XT (SG 2.0); Porsche 718 Cayman; Golf R (Mk7); 911 (997.2); 911 (996); Subaru WRX STI (Hatch); Alpina D3BT (E90); BMW 330i (E91); Elise (S1); Skoda Fabia VRS (Mk1); Peugeot 106 GTi; Skoda Octovia VRS (Mk2 estate); Subaru Impreza WRX (Wagon); Subaru Impreza Turbo (Wagon); Lancia Delta Integrale Evo; Golf VR6; Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9; BMW M3 (E30); Peugeot 106 GTi; Renault Clio 16v; Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9; Escort Mk3; Escort Mk1

100% agree churchie386, dealers are very very poor at this kind of fault finding and Chris @ CG is superb

Yuk :sick, it has the "Galvanic Embellisher" for controls, makes the whole interior look cheap, and you have to pay extra for it
