Alpina B10 3.2 Touring (Based in West Sussex)

Post by richard300 » Sun Nov 17, 2013 12:19 pm

Ok, well i dont think anyone on here is interested in this car (or i am sure they would have purchased it from Circle Garage)...

But due to a couple of very recent financial annoyances regarding my other car and my move to Australia, i might have to sell this car - However i am vigorously head scratching to avoid having to sell this car having only just bought it.

Imagining that this type of car doesn't sell quickly, i might start advertising now, just in case.....

How does the following sound, as an advert? And do you guys think the price is fair?......

I sadly have to sell this car, but am not desperate to sell and would like the car to go to an enthusiast owner, and someone who appreciates just how special these cars are….

This car is one of only 5 B10 3.2 Tourings built for the Uk marked and only one of 3 believed to still be in use…

Ordered via Sytner UK (at the time, the only Alpina dealer in the UK) and built in 1998, the car was registered 1st January 1999.

Alpina are a manufacturer in their own right, and as such, as a brand new car it is signed off by Alpina in their factory and has the BMW VIN replaced with an Alpina VIN.

The following takes place to create a B10 3.2…..

2.8litre (M52) engine is replaced with a US specification 3.2litre E36 M3 Evo engine (S52B32) – This engine (unlike the Euro engine) is a bomb proof iron block single VANOS unit.
Mahle low compression pistons are fitted, the head is re-worked to Alpina specification.
Everything is blue printed, hand assembled and compliments the Alpina inlet manifold, combustion chambers, exhaust manifold, full exhaust system and bespoke Alpina ECU.

The gearbox is gifted with a different final drive (The B10 3.2 will do 168mph)
Suspension is (Alpina specification) twin tube bilstein dampers, springs and anti-roll bars.
Brakes are Alpina spec (BMW 540i V-8) discs and pads with floating callipers.
Staggered (8j/9j) 18” Alpina Classic wheels are fitted with 235/40ZR18 265/35ZR18 tyres.

Styling wise, the wheels are complimented by an Aerodynamic front bumper valance and the rear bumper receives a cut out (and trim) to accommodate the twin oval tailpipes.

Most B10’s are ordered with standard BMW leather upholstery – However this car (Number 64) is equipped with Alpina specification seat padding and re-contoured bolsters and trimmed in rare Alpina cloth.
This trim is very striking and matches the Alpina stitched and badged steering wheel.
‘Fine wood’ trims are added to compliment.
Alpina also fit a bespoke Instrument cluster.

The full build sheet is below:

I would like £5500.oo for this car, and at that price I don’t think this car will lose any money in the future.

As you asked for opinions, it's difficult as I know as it failed to sell on eBay for that price well over a year ago, it has a huge gap in its service history and it's spent its life by the seaside.

Oh and it's been sat doing nothing for a year at circle garage.

The reason the car spent so long @ Circle garage is because it was up for £7k (it was only advertised at the lower price for a couple of weeks before they put the price up - and (almost) as soon as they dropped it, i bought the car.

The car has only been down here on the coast since 2008, the (very, very elderly) chap who owned the car had it garaged and covered very little mileage - I know this because i lived about 200 yards from him and had numerous conversations about the car.

There is no noteable gap in the service history and the car may well have sat in the showroom of circle garage (it was never stored outside) for the last 12 months BUT it has had no detrimental effect, tyres have not perrished, no leaks from seals having gone hard - even the AC is still nice and cold.

Apologies, I thought when they gave me details there was a 7 year gap between a couple of services.

Also, your recent posts suggest you paid closet t £4k for the car...

Time wise - you are nearly correct, there have been some periods of time between some of the more recent services - But then the car hasn't even covered 9k since 2008

Mileage wise though, the service history is as follows:

------ PDI Alpina Factory
8575 Sytner Oil service
17124 First Front Inspection 1
22221 Dick Lovett Oil Service
29183 Dick Lovett Inspection 2
36239 Dick Lovett Oil Service
44029 Dick Lovett Inspection 1
51481 Sytner Inspection 2
67802 Sytner Oil Service
75083 Skinner & Osment Inspection 1/oil
95559 Skinner & Osment Inspection 2/oil
115549 Skinner & Osmnent Inspection 1/oil
123456 Circle Garage Full inspection/service/oil

I wont deny that i didn't pay £5500 for the car - but that's irrelevant.
Besides, the car is now fully MOT'd,is taxed for 6 months, has had a couple of jobs done.

still no where what you paid for it, nothing wrong with what your doing but when the whole community knows it was up for £4000 it doesn't sit well in some peoples eyes

I'm fairly pragmatic about this kind of thing, in as much as 'a car is worth what someone will pay for it'... obviously nobody wanted to pay £7000 for it, but i believe that someone will want to pay £5500 for it - I genuinely would have paid £5500 for it!!

I thought for a moment i might have needed to free up some cash quickly - but i dont as i have moved some money around, but i do have to face the fact that within 6 months i will need to sell this car (as i cant take it to Australia), and it may take 6 months to sell - is this a problem? no not really as i hope to use and enjoy the car for 6 months if i get the opportunity to.

I would also like to state that i am very grateful to the forum community for the help (especially you Simon), advice and nice comments i have received about the car in other posts..... and i do hope that when this car does sell (if that be tomorrow or 6 months time) it goes to a forum member, but if not it will go to someone on Pistonheads, classic and sporting cars or retro rides etc etc.

Fair play, if it comes to it, drop me a line in 6 months time, there's a fair chance I'll give you your money back.

I was looking at it this time ish last year and spoke to circle (it was me who posted on PH). If they wouldn't have been so greedy they could have got rid of it for more money then. Instead I bought a Cayenne Turbo.

Still, glad to see I was right.

I feel its gone to a good home - which is nice - and it will be going on a road trip to Germany this weekend - hopefully the chap will join the site (he is a member of Retro Rides which is where he noticed the car advertised.
