Dealers must spend a fortune rectifying their mistakes. Ferrying cars back and forth; compensating this and that; not following through on what they said they would do; missing stuff off PDI ....
I recently bought a used Polo from my local VW dealership. Because of Covid restrictions, I didn't get a decent look at it and when I got home, I found I had mismatched tyres front to rear. The dealer agreed to change them on a shared cost basis and I ordered a set of mats too.

Almost three months on and I am yet to be billed for my share - not that I'm complaining.

I can only conclude that they are only interested in hitting sales targets and once they have sold the car then any additional costs are insignificant compared to bonuses received for shifting units.

So I have been back and forth with Sytner and here are the list of issues:

• Interior valet not of a high standard
• I found a piece of broken red taillight in the windscreen cowl
• There is a light kerb mark on the O/S front wheel
• Foam pads from a previous number plate showing under the current number plate
• Missing N/S fog light grill

It also turns out that it was a not a punctured tyre when I checked the tyre pressures, rears tyres were correct, front N/S 22 PSI front O/S 10 PSI. Since pumping them up they have been fine!

They will be arranging to take the car back to Nottingham to correct the issues once they have confirmation of the fog light grill delivery. I requested for the Sale Manager to call me this morning so that I could discuss some form of compensation for the poor service, inconvenience and lack of attention to the car prep......still waiting on the call.

Congratulations on getting the B4 but perhaps will wait until it’s delivered the 2nd time. Sytner do not do this themselves any favours do they.

An update, I have been waiting for the Sales Manager at Sytner Nottingham to call me as per my request and absolutely nothing!

I recall having an service issue at Sytner Sunningdale a few months ago, I raised the issue and the manager called me within 2 hours and went out of his way to deal with the issue.

It appears that once they have your money, Nottingham couldn't care less! I chased as to when they could take the car back and resolve the issues and they cannot provide me a date at this stage.

Another thing they appeared to have missed is boot lid does not stay up of its own accord!

Perhaps Gary Lott might be able to intervene?

I had emailed Gary earlier this week, he had not seen the car before it went out. He did speak with the sales person that sold the car who advised him that they will be bring the car back to resolve the issues, if I do not get an update early next week I may chase Gary again.

It is just so frustrating that they just no longer seem to care and that it is the customer that has to chase them for the job they should have done in the first place. I really do not think I will buy from them ever again.

This. In our experience for a very long time. In the early 00's we used Leicester for a lot of parts and the occasional work on our cars and there were motivated, interested staff. Since the late 00's, the group mindset appeared to change and service, new and used car supply has been mass sell, minimum customer support. Ceased using them for service and warranty work around 2015 opting for Dick Lovett and Cotswold for warranty, and independent for service. Haven't bought a car from sytner since the last debacle on a new car in 2015. Gladly, that car is no longer with us.

It's sad they are the only UK concessionaire for Alpina as they are not exactly small budget purchases. In recent years, Dick Lovett brands have received our high budget purchases. It's also sad to see that customers of sytner are still poorly considered: sorry to see your list of issues on what should be a pleasurable experience

ATB, and hope it's sorted to your standards,
Cheers
Bobbly

I'm still waiting for the centre cap I was promised from Sytner Coventry after discovering it was damaged when I collected the car. I'd pointed it out when I viewed the car but they hadn't sorted it. It's been over 6 months now and they just ignore my phone calls and emails.

It seems sometimes you just have to go over the heads of the muppets who makes promises with no intention of ever honouring them, this may have to be the case this time. Perhaps a message to the Group Managing Director of Sytner may make an impact!

Sorry to hear your woes Avtar. Not a fan of buying off dealers but sometimes needs must. In my personal experience nothing beats the impact of a letter in writing when your (happy or unhappy in this case). Of course it depends who on the receiving end too (make sure its the biggest gaffer at the dealership) but I find it has an impact causing that person to do something valuable.

I think Gary tries his best but is surrounded by people who, once a car sale is made, move on to the next sale and forget about their last customer.

Had an issue with Sytner when I bought my D4 and find that if you email the sale manager directly or call his mobile, this should speed things up, otherwise you could be waiting for a return call that's never coming.
