E46 B3.3 Coupe (#088)
E46 B3.3 Coupe (#088)
I'm still not 100% sure on this, but putting up my B3.3, #088. There's a long ownership thread on here from Damian when he owned it before me, I've spent quite a lot of time and lots of money on it since though!
I’ve owned for almost 18 months and have done less than 1,500 miles in that time so just makes no sense to keep it. That said, this is the the only place that I've listed it so far.
Alpina B3.3 Coupe
2000/X Reg
MOT 30th October 2020
165,000 miles
Plenty of work done in my ownership:
24/06/2019 - 163,900 - Paint and spoiler repairs
18/07/2019 - 163,986 - Oil Change
20/07/2019 - 163,989 - 2x Dunlop Sport Maxx
05/08/2019 - 164,000 - 2x alloy wheel refurb
03/10/2019 - 164,122 - Rocker cover and gasket
20/11/2019 - 164,219 - Replacement injector seals and buckets
09/12/2019 - 164,315 - Seat repairs and new door armrest (I have pictures of this to accompany, as well as the invoice)
22/01/2020 - 164,462 - Aircon belt and tensioners
28/01/2020 - 164,662 - Thermostat & housing
07/08/2020 - 164,731 - Final Stage Resistor (hedgehog) - AKA the straw that broke the camel's back!
Some of this was done by me (the simpler jobs!) and the rest by garages/mechanics. It’s also just been to Wheels in Motion in Chesham (https://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/ - Google them if you're not aware of them) to make sure everything was set up and aligned as it should be.
Damina, the owner before me had it for 8 years and was similarly keen on maintenance. Too many things to list fully – though I do have a spreadsheet! There’s a massive file of history though, some of the main aspects:
• Whole cooling system has been replaced
• Brake lines replaced
• Replacement discs and pads
• Replacement powder-coated subframe
• H&R front anti roll bar
• New flywheel
• Refurbished injectors
• Replacement ABS sensors
• Boot floor has repaired
• new springs and shocks (Koni FSD and Eibach). Note that the team at Wheels in Motion felt that the car had been lowered approx. 20mm.
As far as I am aware everything works (heated seats, aircon, rear parking sensors, sunroof) and there are no warning lights on the dash. The previous owner did note that the secondary airpump wasn’t working but if that’s the case it’s made no difference during the time I’ve owned it.
The bad bits:
• It’s had a replacement bootlid and rear bumper. These aren’t the correct ones for a pre facelift Alpina but are at least the right colour
• The rear bumper is frankly a bit of a mess with scuffs and chips
• The rear spoiler has previously been broken. I’ve had it repaired, repainted and reinstalled but it’s not a perfect job in terms of the repair, and it’s also not totally stuck down to the bootlid. Hard to notice and really doesn’t bother me.
• Rust. There’s rust. There are pictures in the ad but I don’t think it’s terminal. It’s been treated with bilt hamber bur some of it isn’t pretty
• It’s a bit rattly, if I was keeping it I’d get the bodywork done then look into some replacement trim/clips for inside
• I can’t get the clock to set! Not sure if that’s my ineptitude or the button isn’t working.
Full Spec:
• Jet black
• Champagne extended leather
• Decent condition Alpina alloys + genuine spare (good tyres on all, Pilot Sport rear and SportMaxx front)
• 2x keys
• Aircon
• Sunroof
• Parking sensors
• BMW Professional headunit with iPod cable and (aftermarket) Bluetooth connectivity
• Electric rear blinds (useless but cool!)
• Heated memory seats
Hard car to price given the history and condition but asking £5,500. Open to discussions though, and would be interested in PX around a D3 estate (which would be much more practical for me). Car is located in High Wycombe, just between London and Oxford on the M40

A nice example and decent price given the work done and history. GLWTS

Re: E46 B3.3 Coupe (#088)
Looks very glossy and rear bumper back to oem
Re: E46 B3.3 Coupe (#088)
Looks a lot tidier indeed. Would be interesting to see the level / quality of paint work repairs. What are everyone's thoughts on the car running non OE suspension? (does it lower or increase the price?)

Re: E46 B3.3 Coupe (#088)
I speak only from my experience a few years ago with my E46 B3, but I would far rather see refreshed non genuine suspension than tired original Alpina suspension and certainly I wouldn't expect a car to be worth less as a result.
I ended up fitting non OEM dampers to my car, a decision made in part due to the previous owner who'd fitted one single non OEM damper to get it through the MOT as a condition of me buying it. I therefore swapped the remaining dampers shortly after but retained the original springs. It was night and day better on the new dampers, even though they weren't anything special (Sachs Super Touring). A worn damper is a worn damper afterall, no matter whose name is on the outside.
If you are going for concours levels of rebuild then absolutely genuine Alpina is the way to do it, but you can get a very nice riding and handling car for a fraction of the cost if you aren't. Personally I think there are bigger fish to fry with the E46 B3 though and that's all due to the auto gearbox, but that's for another day.

Ohh, that's interesting. Yes, it did sell eventually. Guy said he wanted to buy and keep it but as he was a trader I did take with a pinch of salt!
Nice to see that the bumper was sorted.
