E46 Coupe B3 3.3 2003 (SOLD)

Post by Avtar » Wed Mar 25, 2020 11:59 am

I bought this Alpina in May 2019 and was planning to keep it for some time, hence, the expenses list you will see on what I have spent since acquiring the car. However, a change in circumstances (need 4 doors and bigger boot!) and space restrictions (I can’t keep this and get another one?) mean I have to rethink my plans.

The car has had 3 previous owners. Prior to my purchasing the car the following work was done for which I have the receipts, as well as various receipts from 2008, 2010. I believe the car was in dry storage for 4/5 years, hence the gap in bills. Original wallet and books are all there and the last service stamp was at 81,009 on 12th June 2018.

Feb 2018 – 4 x Michelin PS4
Jun 2018 – New Discs & Pads all round, Microfilter and Oil Filter @ BM Vehicle & Maintenance, Billericay, Essex

At the time of purchase the car had a mileage of 81,390, the mileage at present is 84,481 I have completed the following since buying the car:
MOT until 03/10/21

Mechanical
• Air Con Repair & Regas
• Spare key
• New Gear Stick Lever (previous was badly cracked)
• Upgrade to OEM Xenon Headlights & new Osram Bulbs
• New Rear Harmon Kardon Speaker Grills
• New Alpina Suspension, top mounts, etc.
• Oxygen Sensor & Gear Box Oil
• New Boot Struts
• Front Wishbone Arms & TCA Bushes
• Rear TCA bushes
• 4 Wheel Alignment

Audio
The BM54 Amplifier was playing up, so I went to Cartronics and had the amplifier replaced with an BM54 upgraded model for better sound as well as a module to enable Bluetooth Streaming

Bodywork
The car had a minor altercation with a truck at about 5mph, the result of which was, new bumper, (driver’s side) rear quarter, wheel refurb and a new tyre. There was also a slight rust bubble under the rear quarter light (passenger side), due a previous poor repair, so this was stripped back and addressed.

Including other bits and bobs not on the list above and with labour I have spent a grand total of £5,322.71 on mechanicals and £500 on bodywork, and just over £100 on the Audio, with the purchase cost I am into the car for £15,922.71.

The only thing I would say is outstanding, to have the car in tip top shape, are for two of the wheels to be full refurbished. I am planning to try and get this done once we are through the whole COVID-19 situation. I have also cleaned and treated the seats and restored the steering wheel (pictures and details in the general section).

Based upon the feedback below I am not expecting to get back what I have invested, however, sensible offers are always considered. I am also open to the prospect of an exchange for a 4 door model, ideally a B10 or other Alpina. If not an Alpina it's not a deal breaker but it must be Petrol.

Very sorry to hear this avatar but least you had one albeit short
You looking Alpina again?
Price is very sketchy it’s more providence and I hope you achieve realistically a decent offer
If you got btw 10 n 12 be fair imho
Several b3 for sale varying prices ceaser bob will show the breakdown
Only thing I would suggest is maybe sale or return with Munich legends or BArry more likely get a better audience and actual enthusiastic potential buyers and they can hold the car

Stay safe see sometime

Thanks Hap. Ideally I am looking at an SUV, had an X5 for ten years and really liked it, I did look at an XD3 but went for the D5 last time so if a good B5 turns up it would be tempting.

If I do not get any reasonable interest or offers then I may look into covering it up and storing it ay my Mum's house.

I hope you and the family are well and likewise Stay Safe!

E46 COUPE B3 3.3 #270

Post by Bob » Wed Mar 25, 2020 3:30 pm

Sorry to hear you are looking to sell so soon Avtar, especially after doing all that work. That must be the most sorted B3 ready for a new keeper.

The other Coupe options for sale are the same ones which were around when you bought:
B3 3.3 COUPE [E46] #233 Midnight Blue (Sonderlack)/Light Beige Montana Leather; 2002_02; £8.5k; 131k; Trade (ad expired 19-Mar but suspect it will reappear soon)
B3 3.3 COUPE [E46] #238 Midnight Blue (Sonderlack)/Grey Montana Leather; 2002_02; £9.0k; 99k; Trade

Other bodystyles around a similar price point are:
B3 3.3 [E46] #236 Alpina Green/Grey Montana Leather; 1999_V; £15.0k; 43k; Trade

B3 3.3 CABRIO [E46] #024 Daytona Violet (Sonderlack)/Ecru Nappa w Purple Piping Leather; 2001_Y; £11.3k; 80k; Private
B3 3.3 CABRIO [E46] #048 Midnight Blue (Sonderlack)/Light Beige Montana Leather; 2001_Y; £14.0k; 62k; Private
B3 3.3 CABRIO [E46] #186 Alpina Blue II/Black Montana Leather; 2002_02; £15.0k; 75k; Trade

Like hap said, if you seriously want to find a buyer (tempt a trader) £10-12k is probably where you would end up. All the others asking around £15k have been up for a considerable time and appear to be opportunistic dealers. If you aren't so desperate to sell in order to fund a new car, storage would be a good option.

Interesting car as this appears to be a pre-facelift 3.3 coupe but registered in 2003, when the 3.4 engine became available from Sept 2002 in facelift versions.

Build dates are quite different though. #270 was Mar-02 and the first UK LCI B3S Coupe #042 was Apr-03. It is odd though why it took 15mths to get #270 registered.

As CaesarBob has kindly responded it is indeed Carbon Black with Silver Grey Nappa leather and I have, just last week, cleaned and protected the leather and restored the Steering Wheel, using ColourLock range of products.
