G30 BiTurbo Saloon

Post by fe18occ » Wed Nov 06, 2019 10:56 am

I have not had it long and while it is great to drive, both in comfort and for that occassional burst of exhilaration, I have had to face the fact that it just does not suit my needs. It was brought from Sytner earlier in the year and I have done 7,000 very pleasurable miles in it since. It will no doubt make way for a full 4x4 with fat tyres and a large load space that better suit the demands I will make of it.

That said, I have really enjoyed the car and despite the huge loss I will make selling it so quickly I don't regret having owned it. As a press car it was good to be able to read all the nice things they said about it and while Jeremy Clarkson agreed that the M5 was quicker on a track, he'd much rather go home in the actual B5 I later purchased.

Somewhere along the way it lost it's stripes, probably when they would have touched it up for resale and I never got around to replacing them, it had a few issues when I got it but has had the wheels and brake pads replaced (long story) and has been my daily drive since, hence the 7,000 miles added to the clock.

The service is not due for 10,000 miles and it still has the remainder of the original BMW warranty.

The list of extras was impressive (well I thought so) and some of the things have become must haves for my future purchase - like adaptive cruise control, the one in the BM being particularly well thought out - apart from the occassional blast I drive around with the cruise set to the speed limit and let the car sort out the traffic in front if me - it is brilliant and will be missed.

Specification and extras are:
EXTERIOR
162S ALPINA CLASSIC 20" £0.00
X09 ALPINA special paintwork ALPINA Green metallic £2,200.00
INTERIOR
1APL ALPINA Logo on headrests, embossed £205.00
LZFI Exclusive Nappa leather Ivory White with Exclusive stitching and contrast piping £0.00
EQUIPMENT
5DF Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go function £965.00
111Z ALPINA floor mats with leather piping £200.00
XEZ ALPINA piano black with insignia £0.00
2XAA ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC sports leather steering wheel with Multifunction £0.00
552 BMW Icon Adaptive LED Highlights £0.00
4UI Ceramic finish for controls £0.00
322 Comfort Access with smart-opener £695.00
760 Exterior trim, High-gloss Shadowline £290.00
403 Glass sunroof £995.00
776 Headlining, Anthracite Alcantara £835.00
5AC High-beam Assistant £0.00
208G High-performance brake system £1,400.00
4M5 Instrument panel finished in Nappa leather £995.00
209 Limited slip differential £2,500.00
688 Loudspeaker system - harman/kardon £895.00
4T7 Massage function, front £0.00
167 Rear spoiler ALPINA £0.00
3AG Reversing Assist camera £0.00
453 Seat ventilation, front £510.00
323 Soft Close doors £435.00
248 Steering wheel heating £185.00
1AL1 Steering wheel in ALPINA LAVALINA hand finished with Blue / Green stitching £0.00
1ALW Steering wheel with BMW paddles £0.00
416 Sunblind - rear windscreen, electric and rear side windows, electric £410.00
316 Tailgate operation, powered £0.00
Total extras cost when new £13,715.00 (not sure if this was plus or inc VAT)

The LSD was particularly useful - all the M5's I test drove at the time I was looking lacked the ability to put their power down without squirming side to side up the road - the LSD means you just put your foot down and the car launches itself at the horizon without any drama or wrestling with the steering wheel.

The price now? Well I gave £72.5k for it back in April this year, I have been offered £52k (ouch) as the base value if I wanted to buy something from my local land rover dealership, I understand they went back to Sytner for that price and other posts on the forum have mentioned how little they support the resale values on their cars - at that value a 2 year old Alpina has lost half it original purchase price - "we buy any car" is worse but that was to be expected - I never brought the car as an investment which is just as well!

I guess I would look at any offer that is high enough to offset the ease of just handing them the keys when I pick up what-ever alternative vehicle I end up with - I know if I trade it I will no doubt see it online at Sytner for something approaching £70k so would rather it went to a private buyer and cut out the middle man.

If anyone is interested please let me know

This is a pic from when I first got it, if the weather holds I'll give it a wash at the weekend and hopefully manage to get a few more decent pics

A fantastic car, good luck with the sale! I got the chance to have a go in a touring version and was very impressed.

Just to clarify, every single M5 ever made as come with an LSD as standard. What has helped lauch this B5 up the road without drama is no doubt the four wheel drive system, something the M5 has lacked up until the current M5.

fe180cc - presumably the M5 you drove was a F10 model?

Good luck with the sale, it's a lovely car.

Yeah, this one and #060 aren’t doing to well for long term owners. Can’t believe this is on 4 owners in 3yrs (one is Sytner but still) and it must’ve been for sale for 6mths of that.

Fell in love with this at the Ace, for me perfect colour combination, even though Clarkson ragged the a**e off it :(
The times it has been on the market were never the right time for me :boohoo
In a position now, but certainly would not pay anywhere near £70k :no , although seems to be missing HUD and surround view which I really like.

The headrests are adjustable on the G3x, the outer edges can be moved to create a u-shape which cradles your noggin. The pic below shows the driver's one adjusted and the passenger one flat.

This applies to all 5 series comfort seats fitted since 2009. Before 2009 the older version of the comfort seats had a small pillow to the base of the headrest
