Alpina D3 No.525 2007 Montego blue 92000 miles

Post by noj66 » Tue Oct 30, 2018 1:38 pm

Hi, had my D3 on Pistonheads for a while
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds ... ge/8494106

Not had much interest unfortunately, just thought I'd post it here too in case anybody is looking for a nice example. This is the 5th I've owned over the years. I have seen something I'd like to buy so just trying to give the D3 a little push. Cheers folks.

Does anyone ever use Pistonheads when looking for cars?

Stick an advert on eBay, for £17 or whatever it is, it is a no brainer.

Or Gumtree, I'm amazed how well they sell on there too.

I got my first Alpina from Pistonheads private ad. I look at eBay, AT and eBay but not really bothered with gumtree unless I was after a cheap car. However I know one of the B6s Cabriolets was advertised on gumtree a few years ago so good cars do pop up there too.

Yeah I think you're right,I'll have to put it on EBay and Autotrader. I get free ads on Pistonheads as been a member for a long time and have sold quite a few cars on there including the CLK you can see in the photos.

D3 [E90] #525 A51 - Montego Blue/FFAT - Anthracite Citrus Cloth/Leather; 2007_57; £5.0k; 92k; Private

There is a definite hierarchy to selling sites these days, particularly for Alpinas. For me:
1. Autotrader
2. eBay
3. Pistonheads
4. Gumtree
5. Motors

The availability of mobile apps makes a big difference in my mind, but Motors is just too small in terms of market share and Gumtree is typically the choice for the low price and locally sold items.

Don't want to be rude, so apologies if it comes across that way but its not intended, but if you want to show the car being advertised at its best, surely you'd actually wash and hoover the thing then get the pictures and then advertise it?

Or is this process today seen as no longer being the thing to do?

Great pictures by the way, nice and large and description is excellent which is a major step up on many other ads you see.

Some of the adverts I've seen on all the platforms mentioned, the cars vary from pictures taken directly outside or after a car wash, interior not cleaned, or the car just dirty as if the owner has got fed up with his car on the drive home and just taken the pictures and stuck it up for sale!

But regardless good luck with the sale, it does seem as if the market has slowed for cars of a value over £2.5k, below that they go incredibly quickly.

Hi,
It had just been cleaned when I took the photos. Admittedly I'm not overly concerned with 'detailing' but I thought it was clean enough.
I shall try and get the vacuum cleaner out and try again when I get chance.
Point taken though in good spirit. I was a bit half hearted when I first posted the ad. Cheers

I posted a link to your ad on here when I spotted it when it was newly advertised. I think it's a lovely looking car and example from what I can see in the ad.

Cheers Metrics, much appreciated. I think I'll end up keeping it as my daily driver and buying another old Merc or BMW to get my 'new car' fix. ☺ I took a chance last year buying the D3 from a trader on EBay but could see it had been well cared for and had had 4 recent Michelin Super Sports, plus I could see it had been registered here when new. I've had the front bumper painted and had the glow plugs and controller replaced so it hasn't cost me too much. Obviously I'm a bit biased but I still think the E90 variants look great. Cheers,Norm.

In that colour with the Dynamics (which I'm generally not a fan of), I think it looks lovely.

My first D3 in 2007 was identical bar the wheels so my Alpina ownership is book ended by Montego blue cars. Unfortunately the F30 is still well beyond my means. ☺

E90 D3 #525

Looks like Norman's old D3 is back up for sale. The last owner apparently fitted coil-overs, had it remapped to 235bhp-ish and it was out of MOT from Nov-20 to Oct-21. Wonder if there is any story there.

God that's strange. When I saw the Autotrader ad I thought it may have been the one I had owned, with it having the Dynamic wheels. Funny the values have hovered around 5-7k for a few years. It was a nice example. Shame the calipers have been painted.

I did enquire about this one and the reply from the dealer was this:

The registration number for the Alpina is FJ57 CCA

It has the following service stamps…

May 2009 @ 10950
Jun 2011 @ 28155
Feb 2013 @ 45954
Mar 2014 @ 48459
Mar 2015 @ 60711
Feb 2016 @ 81219
Jan 2019 @ 92390
Nov 2021 @ 104147

I asked about the big gaps in service history but they said they had no information about this and they didn’t think 18k / 3 years was a big gap. Needless to say this isn’t the one for me.
