Autocar full road test of the G21 B3

Post by Jonnywishbone » Wed Nov 04, 2020 1:57 pm

Managed to get hold of a print copy before lockdown :D
Autocar verdict wrote:This magazine usually reserves five-star verdicts for cars that profoundly change their particular game. There is little revolutionary about the new Alpina B3, but in Touring guise, the car’s collection of attributes are so compelling and appreciable that they exceed the sum of their parts. The B3 Touring earns five stars because there is arguably no other car on sale that so successfully slathers its appeal across the realms of comfort, performance, practicality, engagement and - relative to other cars against which it competes - value for money. It is one sensationally well-rounded product.

I think that was little in doubt. Be interesting to see how the D3 S stacks up (4.5 stars possibly), but alas Autocar will not conduct a full road test on such asimilar model.

My only disappointment is that as an Autocar subscriber for 20+ years I have to wait for the post to arrive so I can read the article. Might venture out to buy a copy so I can read it today.

A full road test of the D would be fascinating not least because, given the extra slug of torque and the 48v generator it will probably feel at least as fast in-gear. From the little I’ve read everything other than the drive-train is pretty much the same as the B3.

Great review. Alpina seem to be going through a purple patch lately.
