B3 touring on Instagram

Post by ttrill » Fri Oct 30, 2020 4:25 pm

Am I reading into this too much? Alpina has put on “OALBB340” on one of their B3 demos in Germany. Seems a little weird to have the “340” part in it when that’s probably the car they’ll need to differentiate it from the most?

Maybe it’s their sense of humour...

I know it's all a matter of taste. I know it's all subjective. Seriously though, come on....

It’s mine, and yes, I had some custom non-OE stripes fitted.

I’ve been working with a former designer from BMW to develop stripes that correctly fit the E46 Touring, that fit the body shape exactly as opposed to a generic kit that fits a multitude of models.

The finished install is just where we are with it, we considered more subdued and also far more outlandish stripes at the planning stage. However as the stripes are more substantial than the standard Alpina E46 stripe, we went with a traditional colour. And it ends up with rather a lot of gold...

It’s an initial install on our first project car, there’s other iterations planned. We’re also working with EU & US E36 M3’s and Evo 1 and 2 Integrale’s for now.

Although it is not exactly to my taste I do like the deco sets on the older cars and I think this is a good exercise in looking at what could work on newer models. In fact the more I look at it the more I sort of like it. May be a bit brave for me but good good to see someone trying some thing different and enjoying their car.

I think it is a question of size. (Isn't it always? ) I think, and again this is subjective, it dominates the car too much.
