Fully paint correction and decontamination
Fully paint correction and decontamination
With winter approaching, I want to get a good wax on before the weather turns crap. I decided on having a full correction and decontamination followed by a good coat of wax. I did think about a ceramic coating but decided against due to me having a bonnet respray in the spring. I will get it done then. I know the picture below doesn't really show the detail but it looks lovely, really pleased. Certainly worth the expense.

Thanks Team. Still things to do though.

What do you mean by sort wheels? When I brought the car, it had replicas on. Now have the real thing. Also had issues with centre caps. All sorted, for now.

I took her to Scudo Forte in Gosport. They are on the new Daedalus trading estate heading towards Lee-on-Solent. Highly recommended Barry. I will certainly use them again.

Re: Fully paint correction and decontamination
Thanks Lee, just been on their website and might get in touch to pop down and see them. The car looks pretty good over about 85% of the bodywork but I have quite a few chips on the front end so I guess they can tell me if I’m wasting my time. I probably need to get some paintwork done first.

Re: Fully paint correction and decontamination
Stone chips on the front is a losing battle if you are driving the car regularly Barry. They do the PPF wrap whj h I've heard good things about. You will obviously need the paint doing first. I've had myfro t bumper sprayed 3 times in 5 years all due to stone chipping.

Cleaning Wheels
No matter what chemicals or washing regime is employed, periodically those bloody trademark 20 spoke alloys need to come off the car for a proper clean. I really loathe the things, they’re fiddly with a "beggar" to get into filth collecting gutter, not to mention heavy.
To make matters worse I must be ADHD as I seem to get very bored very quickly phaffing round with a toothbrush.
I noted some here have applied ceramic coating, seemingly successfully.
Not having a bottle of said thiothobogloble with added Si02 to hand, rooting around the shed turned up some decades old Autoglym High Gloss.
As an experiment I’ve applied it to half of one wheel.
Slathered it on, left it to fester for an hour, buffed it off. The treated portion of rim and spokes positively glisten and are very slippery to the touch.
The “old tech” polish proved extremely durable when applied to previous cars paintwork, let’s see what happens when it’s been peppered with hot brake dust for a week or two.
Spending 2 hours deep cleaning a wheel is not the most rewarding use of my time.

Re: Fully paint correction and decontamination
Looks a great result John. They are a pain to clean, and yours look even worse than the ones on the F10/F11 - that little channel that runs all the way around the wheel, behind the spokes, looks a nightmare!
I'll be getting mine off soon when I change over to the winters. Always a day I look forward to.....

Re: Fully paint correction and decontamination
Good work on both counts.
I've been restoring the paint on mine using a rotary polisher, chipping away at it in the evenings. It seems to take forever, and previously I have paid others to do it on my new cars, but with my project cars it's not cost effective.
Alloys are a nightmare too and I feel your pain John. I tend to use a mix of wheel cleaner, tar remover, iron fall out remover and car shampoo but if they are bad it still takes ages. I've tried a few coatings myself over the years, but they never seem to last.
