Post by Metrics » Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:28 pm

Just noticed Costco have an offer on Castrol Edge 5w30 longlife oil, 4 L - for just £16 inc VAT!!

This is the lowest price I've ever seen Costco sell this oil at - unbelievable price and value!

Offer ends tomorrow (Sunday)

That's cheaper than bottled water!

Nice find Asim but I can only see 4 x 4l @ £74.59 (which is still pretty good)!

Double check at Costco
They have two lots of that grade
The bmw approved one is normally higher price
They are both Castrol 5W30

Hi Barry. Believe it or not Costco online and the stores operate as separate companies and prices differ. What you've found is the online price, whereas I've quoted the store price (where they are sold as individual 4L bottles)

I'm bothered by this Gee as the BMW approval is likely to conform with long life oil intervals, typically 2 years & 18k miles.
I don't run my cars on that schedule, yearly oil changes in mine, so this Castrol Edge is perfect - the right grade, high quality full synthetic

For clarity this oil is 5w30 LL. The BMW approved "longlife oil" is 5w30 M

Doh...I never go to Costco, anyway the price was too good to turn down so ordered 4 x 4l which is too much tbh so might offer 2 bottles if anyone local wants to come and get them!

Thanks, but my view is the same as Asim in that I'm happy with Castrol Edge. BMW no longer recommend Castrol oil period as they switched to Shell as their default oil provider a few years ago.

Just thought I'd add my comments. I've run both of my last Alpina's on Mobil 1 0w/40 from Costco - it's always been very cheap on a per litre basis and I've never had any problems in over 100k miles, but like others, I change the oil more frequently than the service indicator recommends.

When I was last in Costco the price on the edge 5w/30 was too tempting, so that is what's going in on the next change!!

A bit selfish of you Barry as I only use 0/30 in my B10.

I'd always run mine on 0/30 too Jim until my trusted mechanic said 5/30 would be a good idea even though it had never used any oil in between changes....tbh I think either is suitable given our service routines
