Rust removal from steel tab on lock on wheel covers

Post by PliSsK » Wed Aug 14, 2019 5:58 pm

On my 2001 B10 V8, the steel tabs that are part of the lock on the inside of the 18" Softline Wheel covers (that hold the cover in place on the wheel are rusty on the ends. I need to remove the rust from them without taking too much metal off. Has anyone done this before? I have a Dremel and have wire brush and rubber polishing tips. I am slightly cautious though as previous attempts at corrosion removal with the rubber polishing tips too off too much metal (risk of using power tools I guess). Looking for tips. Cheers.

Brillo pad or wire wool works well for surface rust.
