ChipEx - stone chip kit experiences?

Post by Metrics » Sun Sep 09, 2018 12:27 pm

Does anyone have experience of using this kit? Need to order one in Alpina Blue so any experience of the kit with Individual shades would be particularly helpful.

I used one for the bonnet on the D5 in Sapphire black metallic to do the stone chips. It needs a little practice to get good results but colour match was excellent.

For the larger chips I used a number of layers of paint and left it proud. I then rubbed it down with 2000 and 3000 grit wet and dry and polished out with a DA.

Then polished the whole bonnet and waxed it.

We used one of these kits when we bought our E36 Touring 5 years ago. The whole front of the car had a very serious case of road rash obtained after spending 4 years in South Africa. People said the only way was to repaint the complete front of the car. We spent a complete weekend using a ChipEx kit and it completely transformed the car. You would never know and 5 years on it is still looking good. No trouble with colour match either. The lacquer is mixed in with the paint so it is just a single application. Highly recommended.
