Alloy wheel cleaning - Purple Rain 2.0

Post by GuyW » Sun Feb 21, 2016 5:03 pm

I don't know how many people know about this stuff, but my son just introduced me to it.

It is fantastic! I have G-Techniq C5 on my alloys already, so they stay pretty clean, but this stuff is fantastic and apparently doesn't corrode the alloy or the callipers.

Be good to hear your reviews. Will it wear off/killl your C5?

Whats your verdict on C5. I need to prep my summer wheels but remain undecided if a coating will give me much more benefit as a decent layer of sealant and wax. My winter wheels are wearing the latter and cleaning is a breeze. A lot of it is in the preperation.

Autosmart are releasing a fall out remover next month - Red 7. Their products are normally pretty good and 5 litre containers represent value for money.

Their Smart Wheels wheel cleaner is wheel safe and did a great job of cleaning up my used wheels:

I have to say G-Techniq C5 is brilliant. It stops dirt sticking and makes them much easier to wash. I do wipe/dry my alloys after washing to prevent water marks too. Even tar seems to be easier to wash off.

I will renew my C5 in the summer as it is 6 months old now and they say it should be refreshed annually, but definitely worth the money given how nice Alpina alloys are!

I actually used the Purple Rain on my Golf, on which I hadn't treated the alloys, and it was amazing as getting them clean without any rubbing with a sponge.

So from my experience, if you use G-Techniq you won't need Purple Rain, but if you don't, Purple Rain is a brilliant way to clean dirty alloys.
