Faulty "lit" Alpina signs on door trim

I went out in the dark for the first time last night! (I have lived a sheltered life) and found out that the "alpina" sign covering on the door well lights up in blue! Nice touch. However it is quite fragmented with bits of lit blue areas and then blank "white bits" I assume this is because dirt has got in under the covering? Tried to explain this in the best way I could. Does anyone else have this problem - found a fix. I don't really want to go "prying" off covers if there not supposed to come off!!
(tried to upload photo using the upload your photos button but doesn't seem to work)

Got my answer from Alpina Direct - Buy new side covers!! Hmm, not what I was really after.

yeah I have the same on my B10, I did take them off to see what's what and there's nothing really fixable in there I'm afraid. I gather the bit that lights up is called light tape or such like (boy racer fave) and this can be bought. But how you'd go about replacing the tape that's already there I do not know how possible this is.

When looking at it last summer I did find a webpage of a chap who'd either replaced the light tape, or installed it, or something so it can be done. (I've found the pdf this chap wrote up but I can't see how to upload it)

The tape works on 50v AC (IIRC) so there's an inverter (two in my car) but later cars I think only have one for all 4 door strips

How do I attach docs?? I have two pdfs that would be interesting to the OP but I see no way to upload them, or even a link (not that I have any space to host)

It's electroluminescent sheet. Pretty cheap online. I'm sure it's replaceable somehow, after all somone put it together at one point.
