Sourcing some side decals

Post by Mr Worry » Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:40 pm

I'm looking to retrofit the side decals.

After a bit of forum searching I read a forum member reproduced them very accurately. I messaged them but sadly not heard back

Can anyone recommend anywhere to purchase either a good copy set or OEM set?

Looking for silver

Many thanks

Any BMW dealer. I tried Alpina directly just recently, they replied Nein. Part numbers should be listed in the Alpina parts catalogue for your car.
Someone here more knowledgeable will point you to it.

I'm a sign and graphics guy so in a position to work on possibly producing these. Currently set up some files from photos etc and tried a test fit with some silver I had in stock - the side stripes look too thick on my first template (does anyone know how thick they should be - I'm guessing around 2.5mm??) - the wing decals are not quite right either although I'm fairly close with the front lip decals.
I'm not really looking for more work but may be able to help some forum members out and possibly set up/fit if Midlands based (I'm Solihull and would travel further but it would start to get costly) if not in a particular rush as I'm too busy to get mine done properly just yet but plan to get them sorted over the next few weeks/months...
I may even try a set in green and blue as they may work well on a my white D3 Touring!

Someone posted a photo of a custom blue and green set on a white car - they looked really good imo.

Your front splitter stripes are all wrong: span is too wide and they don't fit up and into the fog light recess as yours do: the top edge runs along the lower part of the aperture. Also. the crossover stripes just behind the headlight are all wrong: again the span is miles out. pm me an email address and I'll send you pix of how they should look as I can't add pix here.

I sell the ALPINA logos anyway on ebay, and mine are a perfect fit if you need one. I did have the stripe kits for E9x cars almost sorted, but my printing co I used at the time went bust, and I lost the masters. I gave up as it was so much hassle to do and get right, especially the rear side panels, and I had an original set to work from! I just bought any I needed direct from Sytner: it was easier and inexpensive really. This is a PITA to get 'right right' and you will get requests for E46/E39?F3x etc etc: you could be entering a very dark, long tunnel!

Can you remember roughly what you paid for your set from the dealer?

They come as individual parts, but the bumper side strakes behind the headlights come with either the wing stripe, or the front lip strip: I forget which as it's been a while. About £40 for each segment at the front, all handed left and right. I didn't replace any side stripes, but they do come as full side kits iirc, with a kit for each side. They are only available in original Buchloe supplied ALPINA colours, though. The oddball colours Nottingham supplied on cars are not easily sourced as they just did them as one-offs, and there is no parts number as such.

They are a PITA to source as most parts staff don't understand the ALPINA catalogue, and you have to get them via a Sytner parts centre as only they have access to the parts list for these. I used Cardiff as one of their staff was fully engaged and understood the parts list....a rarity. And remember, the E92/3 front splitter kits are different to the E90/1 kits. The side kits are the same iirc, but need cutting to make them fit the different door configurations. I used to have a blown up copy of the stripe parts, but I've long ago misplaced that.

Of the 4 Alpina I owned, all were striped: the Roadster S I made from an original set which i copied directly, the E92 I made from scratch but with knowing the dimensions, and the E90 was supplied by Notts from new fully striped in an oddball colour, which I copied for replacements. My E91 had the graphics added on its first change of ownership into a friends custody: cost about £500 at Nottingham including parts and labour (which was steep TBH) but that was in around 2014/5, and I replaced the front bumper/splitter and headlight strakes after having the bumper repainted. i used my own ALPINA lettering as it's a match and saved me £20 :dance

I think many people have had theirs fitted by Simon Alcorn, I have. He is a busy chap, but I would say is the undisputed expert. He does it for enthusiasts and not as a full time occupation. It can take a fair number of hours to have it done with precision and expertise. I have seen a few of the other attempts including those for a main dealer and they in my personal view do not match the quality.

Found the thread - was on a blue car, not white, but sure it would looked great on white:
