E39 2.5d Touring wanted

Post by MCB » Sun Nov 08, 2015 11:58 am

I have been looking for a clean facelift E39 2.5d touring, but not had much luck. Most are scruffy with rust showing and mega miles.

I went and looked at this one yesterday, but it had been raining and the car was covered with leaves, so could not inspect the bodywork properly. The guy said it was spotless with no rust, but I found some on the rear wheel arch within two minutes of looking at the car. It certainly was not as clean as he told me on the phone. The headlamp lenses were so cloudy I am surprised it even passed the MOT. There were also a couple of nasty dents he did not mention. The load area was also very scruffy indeed. Not a well cared for car in my opinion.

I am tempted to look at this one. At least the guy has been honest and told me it has some rust starting to show. The only problem is that he has been using the car as his daily. The mileage is now 150,000 and rising, but then it is cheaper than the other one.

If anybody knows of a nice clean one for sale then please drop the link here. I am in no rush and prepared to wait for the right car. There must be one out there somewhere!

I would consider a 3.0d if the right car came along. But would prefer a 2.5d to be honest.

I don't want petrol Brian. I have been running 2.0 oil burner for 6 years now and very pleased with the economy. When I drive my sons 3.0d I can get 47mpg out of it on a run. Not bad for an engine that size.

The first 02 plate eBay one that you viewed is about as good as your going to get for a 15 ish year old car at that price bracket especially if you are perusing eBay.
525d isn't the type of car that people keep in a concourse standard especially in Touring guise. They are there as proper workhorses
I'd get the first one for £2k and get the really minor bits attended to bring it up to the standard you desire
Other option would be wait until the Old Colonel comes up with a minter but it will be £5k+from him

I may go back for a second look of that car when it is dry. I will never buy a car when it has been raining. You cant see what the paintwork or bodywork is really like. Plus as I said, the car was also covered with leaves.

I am not just looking on ebay.

I don't agree that because of the type of car it would not be cared for. There will be some out there that would and some that wouldn't. Just a matter of finding the right car.

Both cars have been for sale since September. Therefore if they were that good then I am sure they would of sold by now.

I would pay 5k for the right car :)

As I said. I am in no rush
