Over and above the fact the ED spec is rolled out to the 5er. I can't see this being as popular unless they offer an auto mode too (which doesn't really go with ED)?
Is it me or does the forth paragraph suggest the BT unit to replace the 525d?

Well, it seems to suggest a more powerful version of the 4-pot 2litre, so I'd say 'yes', and it makes absolute sense. Would it be the 123d version, though, as I wouldn't think it would have the Alpina trickery on the ECU, and possibly not the larger injectors and the BT's exhaust system.
Also interesting that they're making the Drive Dynamic Control standard. Reviews I've read say it's needed....that's gonna annoy some existing owners who paid for it as an option (or didn't spec it as it was a touch dear!). Should sort the ride and handling of it, now.

I'd expect the 123d unit to have a few more ponies squeezed out of it to compensate for the considerable extra mass it'll be shifting.
I guess they'll be aiming to achieve (or slightly improve) the current 525d performance figure
Makes sense with the Drive Dynamics as all of the reviews seem to say it's so much better with it. Although, like you say, it'll upset a few who've stumped up the cash for it already!
