A bad day
A bad day
Having found that I had slow punctures on both nearside wheels earlier this week, I popped down to my favourite tyre shop to get them checked out.
The screw in the front tyre was repairable but the pinhole in the rear sidewall wasn't - not sure where that came from but I think a pothole caused the sidewall to be pinched enough to damage it. However, both fronts were near the end of their life, so I opted to switch to winters, scrap the front tyres and the damaged rear and keep the other PS4 rear with about 10k miles life still in it as a spare. So I now have four tyreless rims which I can really clean up over winter and a forthcoming bill for a full set of PS4s in the Spring - which is not a bad thing as the fronts were PS3s and causing me no end of problems with tracking and tramlining as they ran low on tread.
So far so not too bad...
But, on the way home, some moron in a Sprinter based milk/dairy delivery van decided to cut across me on a roundabout - I was indicating to exit onto a dual carriageway from the appropriately marked right hand lane on the roundabout and he came round my left at a hell of a speed and turned right to continue round the roundabout, damaging my nearside wing mirror, front wing, wheel and bumper
Furious doesn't start to describe it, but the car's insured and (hopefully) repairable and my insurers and the police agree with me that he was completely at fault. So I headed home, planning to use the car until the garage were ready for it, only to have a catastrophic coolant leak as I approached my house two miles from where the accident happened. Having replaced radiator and expansion tank two weeks ago and all the pipes and connections were thoroughly checked, clearly this was part of the accident damage too (although I am not exactly sure how)
So I am now awaiting delivery of a hire car and have been told, based on my own car, that it will be a premium category car - so maybe I should get something interesting, but we'll see. I also have to deal with recovery of my car to the garage and all the associated hassle, but at least I have the assurance that it will be treated as "no fault".

Actually, from my experience with Admiral, they don't as my premiums continue to fall even though I currently have a "no faulter" from Feb 2015 and next year's renewal will only include this current one as Admiral are only interested in the last three year's for accidents (but five years for motoring convictions). But as i’m Sure you are aware even a no fault accident wil impact your premiums plus the hassle of having to declare for the nexr 5 years come quote time😔
However, we will have to wait and see ...

Yes - thankfully.E24man wrote:Did you have the car on an agreed value policy?
It made the conversation that started "As it is a 2003 car it may be uneconomical to repair" end with me saying "Well, if you would like to write me a £13,000 cheque then let's start talking". The agent then scrolled down his screen and realised his mistake

Sorry to hear the news Charles, unfortunately with the standard of driving out there it is no surprise but hopefully you will be back on the road again soon.
It is interesting that you have an agreed value with Admiral as I tried to get an agreed valuation on My '98 B10 earlier this year as part of a multicar deal. They advised me they would would only give agreed valuations on cars under 20 years old and is why I transferred to Hagerty Classic Car Insurance and dropped the multicar for our other vehicles because of the premium increase. Very strange?
Good luck with the repairs though.

Oops, I meant cars over 20 years old, not under, but as Charles has his B3S covered this is obviously not the case.Alpina Jim wrote:Sorry to hear the news Charles, unfortunately with the standard of driving out there it is no surprise but hopefully you will be back on the road again soon.
