7/2/2008 - Do remakes ever work?

Post by neil » Thu Feb 07, 2008 5:58 pm

Last night at Hathern we got into a pretty random conversation (only link was really car/motor related subjects)

One topic was the remake of KnightRider

which I thought was coming out as a feature film in the cinema - turns out it's US TV NBC...

The debate was about the car they were using for KITT

Not sure it works for me - I guess I'll have to wait and see but from the trailer it doesn't quite do it for me.....

Other remakes I don't think worked

Miami Vice - it bored the pants of me and I switched off.
Duke of Hazard - not great
Starsky n' Hutch - is a better film but kind of a parody

One I liked were:

The Italian Job
The Thomas Crown Affair

any others ?

And while we're on the subject look what's on it's way -> http://imdb.com/title/tt0429493/

You liked The Italian Job remake??

I had to switch it off after about 25 minutes. In fact, I nearly switched it off immediately when I didn't see the Muira the tunnel.

I know someone that owns a Knight Rider car, and I have also driven it – it’s an experience!

What a disappointment that another hit movie has become a budget TV premiere. At work a couple of weeks ago we were all talking about the Knight Rider movie and at the time we were all going to have a night out when it arrived onto the big screen. I also obviously said, when we were talking about the car, that it should have been a Black B6 with red LEDs 8)

One of the few successful remakes have been, and the original is accomplished, that is ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’.

Just watched the new Knight Rider movie.

As I am original Knight Rider fan, I watched the movie with a positive viewing but it was weak in several places. The movie could have had a lot more car stunts. If this was the original storyline for the big screen, I then do understand why it did not succeed for the cinema.

The new series of Knight Rider starts on Tuesday on the Sci Fi channel. The pilot isn’t that great hence why I haven’t searched for any other episodes If the forum starts talking about the pilot, there is one scene that is not logically possible IMO

The new Star Trek movie is reported to be pretty damn good so there is hope for remakes,
and as for car choice i reckon it is all about product placement advertising these day's, the directors choice would come second to the money mens 'choice'
anyone see Evolution with David Duckovny and Sean William Scott from the American pie movies? the last fifteen minutes was pure advertising of Head and Shoulders shampoo.....
