It has often been said that owning nice cars or being knowledgeable about them is not a mandate to be a Director of a Business ie BMWCCGB, but I am not sure who said it?

Do you mean the Bmwccgb which is Aberystwyth or BMW UK which is Farnborough, Hampshire.

Bmwccgb (Aberystwyth) :doh

I think I understand why it was located there originally (to suit the Management?) but I couldn’t see how it assisted the majority of the members.

A bit off topic, but as far as a perspective from a “Northerner”, the location of the events should be varied, part of the experience is the travelling to it. My favourite is always Silverstone, but I loved a trip down to Beaulieu too. I haven’t been to Brands Hatch, that is on my list of to do’s.
The biggest problem is cleaning the car again to show it amidst the pristine examples.

The BMW Car Club office was and is located in Wales due to the fact some years ago a man called David Frith volunteered to be the Club chairman and at the time there was no other candidate. He ran a number of businesses in Aberystwyth and so it suited him to have the office and staff located there. Eventually he was replaced and the staff stayed in the rented office on an industrial estate.

There is 100% nothing to see there, no information, no cars, nothing. It currently has 2 full time staff. They report to those people who are on the Board of the Club or have been co opted by other board members. It all a bit of a closed shop and no one who have no been co opted by the existing board can join the board.

The board is made from volunteers who need zero qualifications or experience and are chosen 100% of the feelings of others. It is probably not too difficult to understand why it is alleged there is not lateral thinking. Back in Jan 2023 it had just over 3500 paying members, no idea what it is now.

After the way the Sussex and Surrey rep was treated by the club, I would say they have lost quite a few members, including me.

To be seen as actually working on behalf of the members the club needs to follow the example of the Triumph Sports Six Club.

For many years they have had purpose built premises in Lubenham Leics, this comprises a museum, a collection of cars, spare parts dept, meeting rooms for committee members, and they produce their own in house magazine.

All members are welcome at all times, and being central they are accessible from all parts of the UK, not stuck in West Wales.
