Events in Scotland

Now I’ve put this up on the Alpina Owners UK page of FB, but curious to see how many of us are in Scotland and if there would be a viability for organising events/stands at car shows in Scotland?

Reason I ask is I used to do this for a national vw club in Scotland and very rarely see anything for Alpina’s up here other than the usual array of stand for BMW’s and M-models.

I think there are very few tbh. I have only ever met 3 people from Scotland with ALPINA. That is over the last 11 years. John Clark BMW used to sell ALPINA cars in Aberdeen many years ago.

The demographics of ALPINA showed that around 80% of new ones or used approved were sold to people with a post code of North Oxford or further south, however how current and reliable this information is needs factual checking.

Its fantastic to travel in Scotland, which I have done many, many times but now with fuel costs it would need to be something exceptional to bring me 400 miles to Glasgow and more even to the highlands or West Coast. I used to come for the football, but costs have slowed that for me too now.

Sadly I think you are in the minority in terms of numbers of owners.

Kind of thought that may be the case, but was thinking for the Scottish contingent if there’d be viability of looking at getting stands for the Scottish car shows.

I am not promoting it, but the Scots region of the BMW Car Club GB is very active.

I know they are, have seen them at shows over the last few years of getting back into car shows again. Again mostly normal models or M-models. Rare for any Alpina car to make an appearance.

In the last 11 years I have been a BMWCCGB member and have witnessed the Scots group at events like Gaydon and Silverstone Classic, I cannot recall one ALPINA being present.

In the events which I have attended at Sytner Nottingham for ALPINA there may have been one or two folk from Scotland attend.

I have not attended any car event actually in Scotland, but generally you are correct concerning the BMWCCGB Scots contingent.

They also no longer appear as a group to the aforementioned events, the BMW Sommerfest next week they are not there as a group, however that is because there are no regional displays.

If you want to join in with other ALPINA vehicles and its short notice and not on your doorstep then the BMW Sommerfest at Donington still has display tickets available until 4th August 22 for purchase.

Too short notice for me sadly, perhaps next year. However I do have notice of about 3-4 Scottish cars that are interested in shows in Scotland to show their Alpina’s. I’ll be planning it out properly in the new year for the Scottish show calendar.

I appreciate that us Scots are in the minority of owners, just wanted to put feelers out in case any on here that don’t use social media, etc and hadn’t seen my post about it elsewhere may have been interested.

I am asked the Scots region of BMWCCGB if they have any ALPINA owners who are members and if they are willing to give their details then I can put them in touch with your directly?

That’s very much appreciated, I’ll be focusing more on next year since the calendar season is almost over up here.

Thanks for your input Norrie, much appreciated.

Some folk might want to join the bmw car club gb, it has a Scottish region who arrange lots of events, not ALPINA specific, but anyone who is a bmwccgb member can attend any event at any region in the UK.
