BMWCC 28th May Cadwell Park

Post by Grumpyjohn1957 » Tue Mar 16, 2021 12:25 am

Booked my self a slot at Cadwell for the 28th May trackday, will any other forum members be attending I wonder?
Good opportunity to stretch the B5s legs but to be honest I haven't a clue how these days work as it's going to be my first time.

If someone wants to ride shotgun, or more importantly provide advice and moral support on the day they'd be more than welcome!

Yes I am booked on, been driving cadwell from about 15 years. If we are able to car share then I can provide some pointers on the lines and how to build up your speed. It’s a lot different than driving on the road.

That would be marvellous.
I’m intending to be cautious and likely quite pedestrian compared to some folk who will be there.
As you point out, it’s going to be very different to road driving and both myself and car need to return home in one piece!
Obviously, I'll be a complete novice unfamiliar with track etiquette and protocols but piloting a missile nevertheless.
Guess I’ll need to book you as a driver/passenger if you want to ride? Not sure how that works if you're driving your own car as well.
PM me to me to discuss further if you wish.

We all started there. The BMW days are low numbers and generally well behaved. You will have an on line briefing that will cover the rules. Headlines are, overtake on left except Blyton which is anti clockwise, overtaking by consent (slow car moves over or indicates) and overtaking is a straight line before braking areas. It’s about carrying momentum and not just nailing it down the straights, if a car catches you, it is faster, despite your pulling away on the straight, so ease off and let them past.

There are a couple of points on circuit that are more dangerous than others, eg hall bends especially damp under the trees. We can have a chat about where to push and where it’s not worth it.

I will be there with the e30 and if we can do passenger rides after Covid, then you might get a hot lap in the passenger seat. Average speeds are over 70mph. I don’t think our “professional driver” will be there, but he’s up at an 80 mph average (marc76)

MSV usually have helmets to rent if you done have one and consider buying a cheap set of gloves if you have sweaty hands.

We can PM nearer the time, regards.
