This looks like a great meeting place and what a collection of machines especially the Alpinas. I also really like the early 911. Pity I am so far away.
It really is - I think you can pretty much turn up any time and see some amazing machinery. Summer weekends used to be super busy before the COVID restrictions. Hopefully it will be closer to the real normal next year - I’m no fan of new normal.

I’m about 75 miles away from home so have only visited a couple of times - wish it was a bit closer too.

Aberdeen is just that bit further but I would consider making a wee road trip if and when we get back to normal. Did a 150 mile round trip last week and that's by far the furthest I have driven this year. Was beginning to doubt my ability to drive after a while during lockdown.

Ha yes that really is a fair way. Makes me seem like a local! Maybe next year we can arrange a date well in advance to get a few more Alpinas together....

Knowing about meetings like this in advance makes it easier to embark on a long trip and once we get back to normal stretching our legs to go further afield will be something to look forward to.

Hopefully when this is all over we can arrange a larger meeting. Or come up to Scotland to you John 8) .
Alpinas & Scotland, what a fabulous combination. I studied in Dundee and adore Scotland - land and people.

Hi Metrics, That sounds like something to look forward to when this chaos subsides. I was pleased to hear you studied in Dundee is that is my home city. I came to Aberdeen in the early years of the oil industry. I was in Dundee last week but only at Camperdown Park for a socially distanced meeting with family. The Alpina guys up here had a run out over the highlands about 5 years ago over some great roads but I think that was the last time we got together.

One day I hope to meet you John, and unite the V8S's!
Fond memories of Dundee, often running/cycling/drive up to the Law and taking in the views of the city and Tayside.

Cheers 👍

Agree with the sentiments on Scotland too - I’ve been fortunate to visit the highlands a few times and drive the western and north coastal roads. There is nowhere more beautiful.

It would be great to meet you too Metrics and unite the V8S's and see them lined up together. I'd be quite happy to drive up the Law with you but running or cycling is a no no I'm afraid. You must have been very fit then.

29 years ago John , still a teenager so was reasonably fit then! Funny thing is sometimes I'd do all that exercise and then buy chips from the chippy on Polepark Rd. And to make it worse back in those days the chips were fried in animal fat!

Sorry, I've taken this thread way off topic :doh

Hi Metrics,

I also apologise for taking this thread off topic a bit but it has been great to hear from a fellow Alpina lover with my home town in common and I think it is one of the great things about this forum that you never know who or what we have in common other than the cars.

I knew Polepark Road well as I went to Lawside Academy on Blackness Road in 1965 for a year before we moved to the new school (original old school was on the side of the Law) and walked down and back up Polepark every school day. Used the chippy many times and the barber. We used to run up the Law after football training but in my case that was 50 years ago. If I get the chance I will take the Alpina up the Law sometime and post some pictures for you.

Best Regards,
John

Absolutely John, this forum has lovely people on it and it's perhaps not surprising given what Alpina are all about - tends to appeal to people with great and refined taste :D

Fond memories of the City, as I'm sure you do. Broughty Ferry is a lovely area, would love to live there. I last visited Dundee 2 years ago, just before the V&A opened. Dundee has come a long way on the last few years.

As I said John, when all f this is over maybe we can get some Alpina folk together.

Broughty Ferry would be my choice of a place to stay if we ever moved back to Dundee.

Looks like Caffeine and Machine will be put on hold, as well as everything else, for a wee while. Hopefully 2021 will bring better days and we can come out of our virtual life and back to the real world of meeting each other.
