Is this it for 2020

Post by Wellsy » Tue Oct 06, 2020 3:06 pm

Hey all,

I missed Beaulieu last weekend, partly due to getting the whole family out of bed at 6am to stand in the rain all day didn't really work or sit well with them, plus realizing one of my rear dampers has a leak, replacements ordered, plus getting called into work at 6pm the night before (all be it virtually).
So my topic, is this is did I just miss the last opportunity for a meet this year? Anything else planned.... of course the Covid situation has meant most meets cancelled and the current situation may mean its the right thing there are no more meets planned.

If this is the case, see you in 2021.

I think any remaining large events may get cancelled now. It was supposed to be the last Sunday Scramble at Bicester Heritage last weekend wasn’t it, but that got canned.

I guess if someone was willing to set up an impromptu meeting one weekend, it would still be possible to get together? Does anyone go to Caffeine and Machine? I believe they are still going on an advanced ticket basis.

Certainly been a quiet 2020! It would be good to have an impromtu meet before autumn winter kicks in!

Is there a German night at C&M, think someone mentioned before it might be a Wednesday evening which might not work for everyone. I have fancied a trip out there though as does look pretty cool place.
If anyone know C&M and could come up with a good time for a mini Alpina meet could be nice.

C&M is 10 mins from mine. You need to book slots at the weekends before 16:00, and some Wednesday evenings. Apart from that, it's open on a first come first served basis. It's been nice and relaxed up there since it re-opened and provided it's dry, sitting outside with table service works well.

Love your car! Colour is fantastic.

I've got a friend who lives really close - I'm always jealous how often he goes down there. I've been down a couple of times to meet up with him though and we were trying to plan a date in the not too distant future.

I'm about 80 miles/90 mins away so would be a struggle on an evening - a weekend day would be better. Would be great if we could get a few Alpinas together - I've not long had my car so would be my first opportunity to meet people.

I'd be up for any southern meets that may be arranged before the winter sets in. I was at Beaulieu last weekend and despite the weather it was a good day and I'm very glad I went and got to meet a few Alpina owners I've only seen or 'spoken to' online to date.

I don't know of any specific Alpina or BMW meets for the rest of 2020 but I am a member of Four Marks Performance Car Club and we arrange regular small group convoy drives if anyone is interested in non-marque specific. There is a supercar club for anyone with an Aston/Ferrari/Lambo' etc but the Performance Car Club criteria is top versions of performance cars so for example BMW is our largest group by numbers (and a few others at Beaulieu too) and that is for M2/M3/M4/M5/M6 and Alpina equivalents hence I'm in through my B5. There are also a lot of RS Audis, AMG Merc's and some Lotus, Caterham, and a Civic Type R etc etc and all events are open to the whole club so there is a real mix, just typically a lot of BMWs which is no bad thing :)

Members are spread out area wise so not just immediate area of Four Marks (Four Marks in near Alton in Hampshire) so drives cover more areas. Some of the guys are going to Caffeine and Machine this Saturday so far afield, I can't though, but I am meeting some for a little drive and run to Popham airfield on Sunday morning for a breakfast bap (between Basingstoke and Winchester).

Standard membership is free and you can follow this link if this interests you https://fourmarkscar.club/performance/ which also covers car model eligibility criteria by manufacturer (Alpina not specifically stated last time I looked so just fill in 'other' and then add details in which is what I did). We also have a chat group for members on Messenger and they are a friendly bunch if you like the social side too although you don't have to join in with this if not.

Hope OK to mention on here as we are just a social group and not a business. A few of us have bought walkie talkies so when on longer group drives they can be a bit of fun and we always ensure distancing etc is observed under the current environment. Typically it is a drive to somewhere with coffee/burger and then home after. One of the guys has done videos in the past (go-pro's stuck in his car) so I have a nice clip of my B5 passing him inside Hindhead tunnel :) Prior to my joining in previous (pre-Covid) years they have had big events mixing both the performance and supercar clubs so hopefully I get to experience some of them in future years when some sort of new world order is reached maybe in 2021 at some point.

Cheers,

Jules

I've just booked up for Saturday morning.

Is it worth starting a new thread, see if anyone is interested?

Please let me know if you are planning to meet, my B3 has not moved in anger for over 6 mths. Perhaps an occasional start to clear the garage to allow for my daughgters car to get in for some work, but that is it.
I was considering, just looping the M25 last week, for something to do. It has really got that bad!!!!
