Silverstone Classic 2020 New Announcement 14.5.20

Post by Norrie » Thu May 14, 2020 3:29 pm

Latest is there will be no decision made until end of May. Currently Three options being considered:-

1. Same date but with Social distancing?
2. Postponement to another date.
3. Cancellation with ticket valid until 2021

ON the basis Silverstone hope to hold an F1 on 26th July and this is on 31st July, there appears to be little time to pack up F1 on 27th July and get everything planned for 30th July to start the next day with participants and spectators, bearing in mind if the F1 does take place there are no spectators. If the F1 does not take place and Silverstone will have lost all the ticket revenue around 15 million pounds, they could be in serious financial trouble? Therefore, each individual can make their own risk assessment as to carrying over a ticket to 2021. In fact the tickets are sold by SEE tickets Nottingham on behalf of Goose Events Limited of Surrey, so no claim against Silverstone directly.

If you have paid by Credit card you may wish to consider a section 75 refund (Consumer credit act) via your card provider, if by debit card or other method may prove more difficult. However, let's err on the positive and see what the outcome is? By the same token Santa Pod issued a statement today that said if their customers asked for a refund and did not carry over tickets they would effectively cease trading and close.

Bit of an update, so it now appears F1 will be at Silverstone on 19th & 26th July 20, no spectators. I was asking my contact there how quickly it would all be packed up and cleared and their response was by mid afternoon on 27th July 20. On that basis it is conceivable that some form of rearranged classic could take place? However how does the safe distancing of all of the Car clubs take place, its hard to imagine. But I guess this is more positive?

Hi,

Waiting to hear more regarding the F1 on the need for exemption of 14 day isolation for attending teams from abroad. Anyone heard anything, seems the F1 will not go ahead if this is not agreed.

I expect the exemption to be given for the F1 double header (sans spectators) but I don't expect the Classic meet to happen this year.

Given the way people have behaved in the last 10 days since the lockdown restrictions were eased and everyone went to the beach (respecting social distancing guidelines, of course), we will see a sharp rise in cases at the end of next week and we are back to square one again.

This is a bit of a rant, so apologies in advance. Yesterday (23.5.20) The BBC reported that Stuart Pringle the MD of Silverstone said they would consider the 2nd August as the second date for F1, the first race being the weekend before. Despite this tickets are still being sold for the Classic 31st July to 2nd August 20?

Therefore, they must have even cancelled or postponed the Classic in their minds at least, if not in reality? The is an alleged announcement on 31st May 20.

It all seems fairly unethical and disgraceful in my view. However how much might I sell my hotel room to a F1 team for? (sorry not serious, but do have one booked)

Just received an Email from the organisers saying that the event is now cancelled, you can either carry over your ticket until next year or obtain a refund.
Wonder if I can cancel my room too :think

Yes, but a refund will take months. I am Hilton member so will check my conditions, however if F1 is on at same time and they need hotels how much is your room worth to them?

Me too, I know on their website they are saying up to the end of June you can cancel without penalty, even though you went for a non refundable deal.
Wait and see if they extend it.

Yes, I contacted the Hilton they said exactly that, it will be reviewed in June and not to cancel the booking now.
