Events for 2020 in UK

Post by Norrie » Thu Oct 03, 2019 10:42 pm

The evenings are drawing in and the weather has not been kind. Now my attention is turning to 2020 and which events I might organise either on my own or with the assistance of colleagues. Personally, I do not see any change in the current situation regarding any ALPINA meet arranged by or at Sytner Nottingham, therefore I discount that as a possibility for 2020. Unless that is, something happens?

The largest gathering in 2019 was around 40 Cars at Gaydon, thanks to those who attended, but this can be "the same old" in terms of location and content. I felt that the concours had rather taken over and that individual groups were consigned to other locations. This did not detract for the general cordial friendship between ALPINA owners. Would you go back?

In terms of a slight disappointment was that we only had around 14 cars at the Silverstone Classic, this is normally in July and spread over 3 days, so one can come for any combination of those 3 days. Saturday is normally the busiest, would you consider coming in 2020 and what if it was as a stand alone ALPINA group? The discounted prices are exactly the same for all groups and clubs, how do you feel about that?

The cancelled meet at the fuel stop at Small Dole, near Henfield in West Sussex can be resurrected and the owner is keen for a group of ALPINA cars to come.

Our second meet at Simply Good Cafe last Sunday was a success, in the rain, with 12 cars and the Milton Keynes location seems favourable with many, so I am planning a 3rd and details will follow.

If you have any reasonable (define that) suggestions or objections or wish to help or are not happy with any of it, please let me know. Thus far I have received positive feedback, perhaps some are too polite to say otherwise?

Details can be found on my FB page Genuine ALPINA Owners group, you do not have to own an ALPINA or qualify, just have an interest, which I believe follows the theme here. I am only dealing with the UK, cannot answer technical questions, am not seeking any financial reward or compensation. I simply enjoy owners getting together and socialising in a harmonious way.

Please note in terms of Social media I have now teamed up with Bernhard Kroenung from Germany and Chris Tranter from Luxembourg on Facebook. Details of events in UK & Europe will appear on there. I will also post them on here as long as no objections.

I am planning another meet at CPC in May - the third in three years.

More details will follow in due course.

Also, if any member wants to organise an event then there is nothing to stop them doing so. There is no monopoly on organising something and I am happy to offer advice and guidance on how best to go about it - just PM me.

100% agreed anyone can organise anything they wish to, I am simply doing it due to the very few ALPINA specific events. But if anyone else has any good suggestions I am happy to help them or attend if like many others I can and it does not clash with something I committed to.

Will be pleased to see 15 ALPINA Cars this coming Sunday at BMW Farnborough, so thanks for your support .

Indeed, I would really like not to organise anything and just turn up, so no monopoly under any circumstance.

I think in 2019 it was on 12th May 19? That was a pity as it clashes with the Basingstoke Festival of Transport which I attended with Simon Alcorn (C2 2.7), Steve Henry B10 V8 & Tim Maltby B10 V8S. Hope it will not clash in 2020.

It will depend on when CPC are able to accommodate us.

Afternoon All,

I know I have mentioned this to Simon previously, but just to get it on the Forum and see if there is any interest.

There is a show called the KOP Hill Climb held every year in Princes Risborough Bucks. https://www.kophillclimb.org.uk

Its one of the oldest Hill Climb venues in UK starting in 1910 - Held over a weekend in Sept every year. This year it will be on the 19th and 20th Sept.

Clubs can book a stand and also enter to run up the hill, it's not a race.... but there are no speed limits and the road is closed - you can work out the rest. I did a passenger ride in a Jaguar D type replica last year hitting over 100MPH on the way up the hill, considering the hill is 1 in 4 at its steepest its quite an experience. There is then a loop back to the show ground, normally lined with spectators cheering on all the cars. I precession of Alpina's would be very fitting.
It's not just about the hill though, there are hundreds of cars and bikes ranging from pre war to modern day super cars. there's food, bands, fairground and a soap box derby entered by local children.
Saturday being the main day, but both day's are normally very busy, obviously the weather helps, but come rain or shine the show happens.

In short, official ones, I would doubt it. Unofficial, maybe but not organised by me.

Evening all, just an update the Kop Hill 2020 has now been cancelled. They are looking at some sort of alternative format, no idea what, but wont be the Kop Hill as we know it. Another one bites the dust.
