AUC Warranty Cover

Post by Grumpyjohn1957 » Tue Feb 22, 2022 11:11 pm

My 3-year manufactures cover is up shortly so I’m considering taking extended warranty cover on the B5.
I’ve looked at offerings from 3 companies, BMW, Sytner, & Motor Easy.
The ME premium is approx. 40% less than the first two, which are similarly expensive, but it does promise the earth including an element of wear and tear. However, the sales agent who rang me about it this morning didn’t seem to know an Alpina from a tea bag.
More worryingly he kept mentioning Halfords for the VHC check, MOT and service work.

BMWs current insurance partner Allianz are adamant Alpina’s only come with a 2-year manufactures warranty, not the BMW 3 year.
I now have to ask Alpina to prove to Allianz my car is in fact 3 year covered before I can get a definitive quote! (more hassle)

My question is,
have any of you used or claimed on a used car or extended warranty offered by the above companies?
If so what was the outcome and overall experience?
Its a big bucks game this and the cash might better be left in the bank of John for the inevitable rainy day.

Get the extended BMW warranty and pay monthly. It’s worth it. Do not pay an annual premium and forget any other warranty option. Cant help with the 2-3 year quibble but going forward there is only one sane way to go if wanting a warranty that actually does what you want it to when needed.

I've heard a lot of good things about BMW extended warranties and how never to use anyone else (from actual friends not internet murmurings) and on my previous daily (6 series) I paid for a year's extension. When I sold the car (I hadn't planned to move but we saw a house we loved and I needed to raise cash) I got a healthy partial refund.

I have massive first hand experience regarding this as took extended warrant from 2011 through to 2021. I had the BMW extended warranty and claimed over 32K worth of items including labour. This included the replacement of the following:-

3 x boot pump mechanism
1 x sat nav hard drive
1 x alternator
1 x Kat
a large number of sensors
electric mirror mechanism
rear electric seat mechanism
electric sunroof mechanism
Supercharger

The biggest issue is that with many complex electronic features the Labour content is massive.

If one enters into the fully comprehensive cover and does not break payments then cover can exceed 100,000 miles.

I stopped it of my own volition this year, for the following reasons:-

The monthly premium was going to be in excess of 200 pounds, however I am now only using the car for a few times a year for shows etc and therefore took the calculated risk and decided to pocket the 2400 per annum fee.

Your BMW Warranty premium is based on your mileage, you must have full service history with no breaks, you are obliged to use BMW Main dealer only for any warranty work.

Most of the other offers is not what is covered, look for what is not. The supercharger alone is over 4.5K. I had a new one last year and the previous one lasted 70K miles, which will be 14 more years under my current mileage.

Re extended warranty I have a quote for 3years from sytner but BMW website has error message whilst recognising reg number - “no vehicle range found for a given model code MP626”

It is a B5 registered mid 21, sub 20k miles I might well keep the car for another 5-7 years

I read above that BMW can be extended to 100k miles and so presumably for many years (similar to Porsche 100k? miles and 15 years) whereas Sytners only seem to permit warranty extension if car less than 3 years old - so max 6 years if you take 3 year extension

I am minded to taking Sytners as I use them but don’t want then to get blocked from switching to BMW warranty when car 6 years

Any input appreciated

Had the same dilemma.
BMW Insured Warranty is underwritten by AWP P&C SA and is administered in the UK by AWP Assistance UK Ltd.
Not cheap - neither is a broken B5 - but offers good cover. Had an issue with them recognising the car which Gary Lott kindly resolved for me.
Hope I never have a claim.

I've just renewed mine for the 3rd year. It's not the cheapest but good peace of mind if the worst was to happen. I have claimed in the past for a rear suspension air bag, but it was less than the cost of the cover - however, service was very good.

I had to call the first year as it didn't recognise my car, but they seem to have sorted it now as it worked this time. I also had to call as I didn't get the documents through via email. The same has happened this year so I need to call them again.
