Pay-by-mile insurance - thoughts / recommendations

Post by 440 » Thu Jan 20, 2022 12:37 am

Hi all, it is that time of the year where I need to renew my insurance. I moved houses and the new premium was up 50% and comparing online I found pay-by-mile insurances that, based on my annual mileage, are half the price of the cheapest traditional insurance. They say they cover the car while parked too. Does anybody have any feedback on this type of insurances? Any companies to avoid? Any personal experiences? Thank you.

Update: after a deeper look into these insurances, I found out that Alpinas are rated in high insurance groups and they would not insure it, then other company gave me a quote nearly double of a traditional insurance so I ruled out this pay-by-mileage insurance idea.

Some of them require to have an adaptor connected on the OBD port and although they say they only track mileage and nothing else, I would not be too happy they could check other data.
