Insurance Quotes - jumping up by £5K+!

Post by D3Milner » Mon Oct 19, 2020 4:11 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm having a very strange thing happen to me. I recently moved into a new flat (only 1-2 miles away from my old house). I am getting insurance quotes for my Alpina D3 at my new house and they are all coming in at over £4,000+!. As soon as I put my old address into the quote, it drops down to £1,000 (reasonable for a 22 year old with 4 years no claims). My new address is on the logbook, driving license etc. so all up to date. I just got off the phone with Adrian Flux and a very helpful lady who came back with a quote for £4,000 and said it is because I have only recently moved house, so things aren't fully up to date yet. She put me through to another insurance company who deal with people in strange circumstances (e.g driving bans etc).I am waiting for them to call me back with a quote. The gentleman there was also very helpful.

I just thought it's a very strange situation I am in! Anybody else dealt with something similar? Hopefully I can get something sorted before the 4th November when my current insurance runs out

*Please note, I can't renew with my current insurer, AA Insurance as they no longer exist and have been bought out by Admiral so cannot provide me with a renewal quote. Typical!*

Not strange at all. Insurance is calculated with from a number of factors. e.g. There may have been a car theft from your new address post code, the insurers just having a bad time as people are selling up cars they use to use pre covid....etc etc My guess is because its and Alpina...

I will not comment on your individual situation as I do not have the definitive answer. However to add to the last post, your quote may be based on a whole host of factors. Certainly the "risk" based on post code lottery is one. Do you have a tracker, is the car garaged, its it in secure area, is it parked on public highway for a start. There is your age, occupation, any points on licence, level of cover, additions like replacement car, legal cover, screen excess, policy excess, breakdown cover included, modifications and if the Insurer actually recognises your car as an ALPINA. I believe some fall into "others" and are quoted as such.

You could do worse than get a quote from A Plan Thatcham Branch (only) with whom a number of ALPINA owners deal and I indeed have a number of policies with Insurers via them as the broker. 01635 874646. There are, of course many other brokers and insurers.
