Warranty Extension

Post by Collectingbrass » Wed May 20, 2020 11:16 am

Last year I bought a D4 (Nr 85) and the 12 month warranty is up towards the end of June. When I spoke to BMW Warranty when I bought the car they said they would contact me as the warranty approaches the end of its term, is that still the case in a Covid world? Also, are there better options out there?

Okay, it is unlikely they will contact you. Therefore best you contact them, this is something I know a great deal about. I have had extended warranty since 2012 on same car.

Firstly you need full BMW dealer service history and the right periods and using BMW genuine parts, you can use any indy as long as parts are genuine and they are vat registered. You cannot use indy for warranty approved work.

You can purchase a fully comprehensive warranty with or without any excess or a major components only warranty.

I would advise the continuous warranty by direct debit with has no upper mileage limit as long as contract is not broken. If you go for the fixed say 12 month contract they are not obliged to offer renewal and often dont if paid out for major claim whilst insured.

Currently I am permitted a 90 day no payment due to the crisis, but can take it up again after a review.

I have found this warranty to be excellent and had 25K worth of work carried out and no arguments. I had the warranty one time with Warranty wise it was rubbish, also alleged RAC warranty rubbish to, not what they cover, but what they do not.

just to update this and close it out, I eventually rang the BMW Warranty Team and got a quote for a fully comp warranty which wasnt far off 3rd party company quotes so I went with it. About 2 weeks later I did get a letter with the warranty offer code etc, but I'm glad I rang as that arrived only a couple of days before the AUC warranty expired.

Now have managed to recommence my fully comprehensive warranty with BMW Warranty even at 122K miles, after being miss informed by them and told to cancel it.
