Insurance options

Post by BarryM » Thu Mar 19, 2020 8:10 am

Just trying to get a specialist policy on the car after having been with a number of companies over the years loosely based on the lowest quote but what are the specialist options people choose?

The obvious ones I think are:
  • Agreed value
    Repair at your prefered garage
Option to purchase if written off
    European cover
There must be other things that you choose but I can't think of them so what do other people have as a must?

thanks

legal protection, additional pay out in cases of total write off, protected no claims, business use, additional driver, discount for tracker or equivalent, discount if garaged, no claims discount, limited mileage discount.

If you go to a decent Insuer or specialist agent they should talk you through all options, thats why I dont use call centre type insurance.

Thanks Norrie, I guess I thought of protected no claims, business use, additional driver, no claims discount as pretty normal stuff all insurers offer and
discount for tracker or equivalent, discount if garaged would come up when completing the proposal form.

Good point on legal protection, is additional pay out in cases of total write off the same as agreed value? And limited mileage discount is one I use.

I did follow your advice and called A Plan but Carlie wasn't available and the chap I spoke to whilst helpful didn't really add much value

call back speak to Mathew Minchin , no the agreed value, if one has i is totally separate to the additional pay out insurance. This is and additional amount if the car is a write off on top of whatever the sum agreed or paid is. I am uncertain if they only offer it to certain people in certain circumstances, I have 10 years plus no claims for example and two cars with them. If you are really getting no where speak to the Director Henry Francis, he knows me and Simon Alcorn well he can 100% answer all your questions.

Norrie, appreciate your reply.

I did call back and managed to get some more clarification on the policy they have offered me (with Markerstudy insurance services). My main issue was I couldn't find anything in the policy document around salvage retention which is one of the main reasons for my switch to A Plan - neither could they but they have promised me it's included and will send me confirmation by email. I've gone with the policy as the cost was good so generally pleased I contacted A Plan so thanks for posting about them. I think I have a few days grace on the cover but as long as the salvage retention confirmation arrives I'll be happy.
