WTF with the car insurance sites

Post by MichaelC » Thu May 04, 2017 11:31 pm

Tried the usual suspects Gocompare, Moneysupermarket, etc etc.

Suffice it to say, last year their databases recognised the B6. Not this year, either its a 645 or it doesn't exist. Time to do the leg work the old fashioned way...

Sadly LV significantly hiked the premium this year. So its goodbye to them after many years. Tried APlan, no luck. Called NFU, they went to their underwriter and the premium is broadly the same as last year and with a guaranteed value. Happy with that.

I used a plan but went into an office to ensure that I got B6S specified on the policy. Decent price but they had to hunt for an underwriter.

I've just renewed with A-Plan for the 335i and left them for Haggerty for the B3 on a classic policy.

Another vote for A Plan, they insure all my cars and no one comes close on price.

Sadly A Plan couldn't compete.

NFU though came up trumps, and better still with an agreed value...

Agreed, had been with LV for years and the premiums were always reasonable.

More fool them!

I did love the question from the chap I was speaking to at NFU, paraphrased " we have to ask this question of everyone: do you carry explosives, shot gun cartridges.." I think he said firearms at that point but I was chuckling thinking somewhat unlikely!

I'm probably about to get shot down in flames but aren't price comparison web sites purely for those who are mainly (only?) interested in price? The cynic in me believes you will only find out how good your insurance company is when you need their help. I may possibly pay a bit more each year (although I've been with NFU for many years now and reading what's above, probably not) and on the few occasions I've needed them I cannot fault their helpfulness and efficiency, especially when I didn't want to use their recommended body shop.

No, I don't work for NFU
