An X5 3.0d
In a random bout of Davey worship, I've converted from the B5 to an X5 for a period of time...
The Alpina's off the road at Sytner Sunningdale for a while, awaiting some new parts from Germany. Should make for an interesting contrast with the beast!
Hopefully it'll get the X5 bug out of my wife's system - I'm having trouble justifying a new Alpina X5 to myself, especially with the political climate in London!

It's contagious, but I've managed to resist it so far. Last time he was round at my place, I found myself checking Autotrader for X5s with a champagne interior. Mrs Chas started admiring X3s, so I assume the virus displays different symptoms in men and womenhythe wrote:In a random bout of Davey worship, I've converted from the B5 to an X5 for a period of time...
However, there is a cure... Take a look at an X5 next to a Range Rover and you'll want the Range Rover - and it's easy to get that thought out of your head as soon as you try to justify one.

Marvellous! I think that they're great, very good drive especially with the sport suspension and the 20" wheels off the 4.8is. Autobox suits it well. I just wish with hindsight that I'd sploshed the extra cash and got the 4.8 instead of the 3.0d as I miss that overtaking grunt... Time for something extra to entertain myself I think...
And the economy of the 3.0d isn't that special. I've averaged 24mpg in 10000 miles so far which is a bit disappointing. Space is great, very very easy to put the kids in, good views when driving...
I think you'll enjoy it Mark, and you'll be joining me in the Alpina X5 order queue!

Re: An X5 3.0d
I also had a X5 3.0d for the day on Thursday. I loved the engine and the steptronic gearbox these go together superbly. I am missing driving a manual car but modern diesels cars IMO have stalling problems, and are now becoming known for gearbox and clutch problems also.
Back to the X5: My friend has a BMW V8 Range Rover which is fully loaded and she has placed me on the insurance as a name driver therefore I do occasionally drive the beast. I will not give a comparison of the engines because it is unfair to do so. I however do agree with this statement
Thought: I have not physically seen the new X5 yet therefore at the end of the month I may change my mind.

I don’t want to offend Simon Davey or any other X5 owners therefore I do apologise in advance but IMO it is no real competitor for the Range Rover: boot space, ride height, interior space. I therefore personally would rather own an E39 or a Range Rover.Chas wrote:Take a look at an X5 next to a Range Rover and you'll want the Range Rover - and it's easy to get that thought out of your head as soon as you try to justify one.

Oscar Wilde & Burkard Bovensiepen: I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

Steve it looks very aggressive & bad ass in the flesh something the X3 will never do, well has failed to do so far.
