driven the 730d couple of times and loved it... (though obviously not as much as the B7..)

Think you should start planning some bodystyling mods like the E65 ALPINA bodykit and wheels... the B7 look is stunning IMO.
Hi Andy.

The LCI E65/E66 came out on an 05 plate so I am firmly in the facelift category which is what I was after. A B7 would have been ace but out of my price bracket.

The Alpina styling thought has already crossed my mind with Mrs V8 rolling her eyes although a 2nd hand set of 21s would be eye watteringly expensive methinks.

These were taken just after the car had arrived at the dealer's a couple of weeks ago before it had been cleaned up.

It's as quick as the D3 pretty much as 7.8s to 60 and turns in 231bhp and 383 lb.ft of torque. I haven't really nailed it yet but it nips along when you push it. I have to say it sounds a whole lot better than the D3.

It has the standard 730d Sport spec plus electric sun roof, heated front seats, CD changer, comfort seats, soft close doors and powered bootlid.

I'm trying to get out of the lease on my D3.
Not looking good though, I'm only 7 months into a 3 year deal.
I love the car, but a saloon is far too impractical for a young family.
I need an estate, or a hatchback at least.
For those who wonder why I ordered a saloon, we didn't think we would be having any more when I ordered it!

Did the dealer stiff you on the trade-in?
IMO, they should have been glad to get rid of your new car and welcomed the D3.
No offence, your new car looks great, but the current market should favour the D3.

They look dead easy to clean though.
Which would be nice.
Not sure grey leather and wood trim works together though.

Congrats On the car James. It looks stunning . Plenty of torque there too. I have been contemplating a 7 now for a while but still not 100% yet. You have some great extras with the car. Thats what I like about the 7 series so many extras.

I hope you hold onto this one for a while now .

I lost a chunk but I don't think cars are selling, period. I had the D3 up for sale for 6 weeks and didn't have one serious enquiry. I think the thing with the D3 is you have to want a D3 as 320ds are a lot cheaper with a better spec and people, unless they are Alpina fans, will head towards the cars that they consider more bangs for their buck.

I moved down (in size) to the D3 with some reservations about the space but wanted to give the sensible option a go but we found that even the Touring wasn't big enough, bearing in mind the this was our family car. We have a Silver Cross for our youngest and that takes care of 65% of the boot with the load cover in place. By contrast, the pram fits length ways in the 7 and only takes up 40% of the floor space with a bit of room above. The back has extra leg room which is great for our 3 year old to move around without hoofing my Mrs. in the back.

The current market probably does favour the D3 (no offence taken) however, that makes 7's a fantastic buy, pr any big car for that matter. This one has lost a staggering £1k per month in depreciation and hasn't even done 'average' mileage. The not running cost is higher with slightly increased road tax and 3p a mile more on fuel but a worthwhile trade off.

James

I am not sure that 19" Alpinas would look rihtand I susect the offset ould be wrong. The only option would be 21s but will be seriously pricey. I must admit, I rather like the wheels and as much as I love Alpina wheels, I won't miss cleaning them.

How did you know I have a grey suit?? ;)

Seriosuly, I am a big fan of black leather (in cars  ) but a family friend in the car trade said to me that in the luxury segment there is so much variation in specification that you usually have to compromise. The ideal combo would have been silver and black but certainly am not dissatisfied with my choice much to my wife's delight :D

Have you thought of a re-map for the 730, James.

I can recommend a very good guy who did my 330d.

He can give you an extra 40 bhp and and an extra 80 nm of torque.

PM me if you are interested.
